Furies at State Track & Field Meet (5/17-18)
The Furies competed in the NCISAA State Track & Field Championship at Raleigh’s Ravenscroft School this past weekend and turned in some wonderful performances. Leading the charge was the sophomore duo of Graves Littlejohn and Adam Chase, who toppled the 21 year-old school record held by Michael Miller in the 3200m. Graves earned a sixth place finish by running 9:51.49 which was 13 seconds better than his previous best, and Adam was tenth with a 9:59.49 which lowered his previous best by nearly 8 seconds. Freshman Elizabeth Stockton was the highest scorer for our girls as she posted a PR of 1:02.94 in the 400m for a seventh place finish. The girls 4x400 Relay team of Haley Doherty, Carrie Logie, Elizabeth Stockton, and Ashley Bohle ran six seconds faster than they had this year and secured an eighth place finish at 4:23.45. The 4x800 Relay team of Haley Doherty, Kate Singletary, Allison Quinn, and Ashley Bohle also ran a season’s best by two seconds for an eighth place finish at 10:41.23. AJ Doherty Topped off a very successful year with a personal best time of 52.01 in the 400m trials on Friday and returned in the Saturday final to run 53.10 and finish eighth.
Other personal bests turned in by the Furies were: Ashley Bohle - 800m (2:28.87), Katie Hitchcock - Pole Vault (7’ 0”), Boys 4x200 Relay – Grant Cain, Will Mitchell, Bryan Christ, and Tobias Newhaus (1:38.87), Zoe Kurtz tied her PR of 4’ 2” in the High Jump, and David Hubble’s 10’ 0” jump in the Pole Vault matched his PR.
The Furies only scored 4 points each for the Girls and Boys for 15th and 14th place team finishes, BUT, 25 of the 30 people who went to the State Meet were underclassmen! The future looks bright for the Furies Track & Field Teams!
