H-P Christian Over Fury Boys (1/31)
The boys’ varsity basketball team lost a very physical battle to a strong High Point Christian team (25 -1) last night 72 -49. Colton Bishop led the Fury boys with 14 points. Matt Reyes had another strong defensive outing with his blue collar work ethic on the boards. The boys travel to Christ School on Thursday to face another NCISAA 3A top five team. The team is now 15 – 11 for the year.
Wesleyan Takes Fury Boys (1/20)
The Fury boys’ varsity basketball team lost a very tough battle against highly ranked Wesleyan Christian Academy last Friday night. Wesleyan jumped out to an early lead but the Furies refused to go away. Led by the leadership of Jack Young and Kevin Reinemund, the boys kept this game close against a Wesleyan team that features three of the best players in the PACIS conference. The final score was 65–53, but the score did not reflect the strong play of the Furies. The boys return home on Tuesday to play Calvary and will then go back on the road to play arch rival Greensboro Day School on Friday.
Varsity Boys Over Cary Academy (1/18)
The varsity boys’ basketball team got back on track last night with a 86 -53 win over Cary Academy. Tim Cooper, Colton Bishop, Jack Young, and Kevin Reinemund all were in double figures in scoring for FCDS. The Furies also got a strong performance on the defensive end, with Tre Hayes and Chandler Bradford both coming up big. Next up for the boys will be Wesleyan Christian Academy on Friday at 7:30, followed by a home game Tuesday, January 24 at 7:00 p.m. against Calvary Baptist.
Tough Weekend for Fury Boys (1/7)
After several strong performances over the winter holiday break, the boys’ varsity basketball team faced a very challenging weekend during which they suffered two losses. On Friday night, the boys faced a very challenging foe, in the #3 ranked team in the NCISAA, Ravenscroft School. The visitors came out gunning early and there was no let up throughout the game as the Ravens cruised to the victory. Colton Bishop and Kevin Reinemund both hit for double digit points for the Furies in the losing effort.
On Saturday, the boys headed to Charlotte to face another NCISAA 3A opponent, Hickory Grove. The Furies struggled collectively with their shooting, which has been their strong point all season, Dominant play by Hickory Grove’s big men added to FCDS’ woes and led to a long afternoon. The boys ended up on the short end of a 56-39 score at game’s end. The boys will look to bounce back this week when they hit the floor on Tuesday to for their first PACIS conference game of the year, versus High Point Christian.
Fury Boys Take Spencer Championship (12/28)
The boys' varsity basketball team capped off their holiday break by winning the Frank Spencer Invitational Tournament. A well balanced team effort beat a very strong West Forsyth team 64 - 62 in overtime to take the championship at the Lawrence Joel Coliseum last night. The Furies withstood a relentless Titan team and took the prize without their leading scorer and team captain, Kevin Reinemund. Reinemund continued to show his leadership throughout the tournament by becoming an assistant coach for the three days. All tournament honors went to Colton Bishop and Andy Bell, and Tournament MVP went to Jack Young. The boys will have a brief break before heading into conference play. Fury Boys Head for Championship (12/27)
The boys' varsity basketball team advanced to the championship game of the Frank Spencer Classic, tonight (Wednesday) at 7:00 p.m., against West Forsyth at the Joel Coliseum. The boys beat North Davidson 62-42 Tuesday night behind a tenacious defense and the sharp shooting of Andy Bell and Jack Young. Once again a strong performance from the bench sealed the victory for the Furies.
Fury Boys Take Atkins in Spencer Opener (12/26)
The boys' varsity basketball team got back on track Monday with a first round win against Atkins H.S., in the Frank Spencer Tournament. The final score of the game was 47-23. Strong defense and a slowed down offense, along with balanced scoring, led Forsyth to the victory. The Furies will play in the semi-finals Tuesday at 4:00, at the Lawrence Joel Coliseum against North Davidson H.S. The team's current record stands at 13- 3.
Myrtle Beach Over Fury Boys at Panther Classic (12/23)
The boys' varsity basketball team lost a heart breaker to Myrtle Beach H.S. 57 - 51, in the finals of the Carolina Forest Panther Classic at Myrtle Beach. Colton Bishop was named to the All-Tournament team for his fine performance throughout FCDS' games. After a Brief Christmas day break, the Furies will open up play in the Frank Spencer Tournament, on Monday against Atkins H..S at 2:00 p.m. That game will be played at East Forsyth H.S.
Fury Boys Reach Finals (12/22)
The varsity boys basketball team (11 - 2) will play in the finals of the Myrtle Beach Panther Classic after another strong victory in the semi-finals last night. The Furies beat Metrolina Christian by a score of 69 - 58 behind the strong defensive play of Thor Emilsson. Emilsson put on a rebounding and shot-blocking clinic for all in attendance against a very tall, physical Metrolina team. He, along with sharp - shooters Colton Bishop (20 points) Jack Young (17) and Kevin Reinemund (16), helped put FCDS in the finals against Myrtle Beach H.S.
Fury Boys at Panther Classic (12/21)
The varsity boys' basketball team improved their record to 10-2 with a strong win over Waccamaw H.S., by a score of 64 - 44, in the Panther Classic at Myrtle Beach. The team was led by the strong shooting of Colton Bishop and 12 assists by Kevin Reinemund. Defense and an aggressive press in the second half by Tre Hayes and company sealed the victory.
Fury Boys Take Providence in OT (12/9)
After a very strong first half and what looked like it would be an easy victory for the varsity boys’ basketball team against Providence Day School, the team had to fight for its life to secure an 82-74 overtime victory. Forsyth was led by balanced scoring and a burst of energy in overtime for the win. Kevin Reinemund and Colton Bishop led the Furies with 27 and 23 points respectively. Next on the schedule is an away game at Covenant Day School next Friday.
Fury Boys at MB Showcase (12/2)
The Fury boys’ varsity basketball team played one of the top rated teams in the state of North Carolina last Friday night at the Childress Center, as part of the Mercedes Benz of Winston-Salem Holiday Basketball Showcase. At several points in the game the Furies led Charlotte Christian and they challenged to defeat a team many consider a favorite to contend for this year’s NCISAA 3A state title. The Furies were led in scoring by Kevin Reinemund with 34 points and the team’s leading rebounder was Matt Reyes with nine. This year’s Fury squad features many new players added to a solid core of returners from last year. The “new and exciting” Furies are quickly making a name for themselves within the NCISAA, as a school that might surprise opponents as the season moves forward, with their strong play from multiple positions.
So far this season the Furies have an overall record of 5-2. They are averaging over 60 points per game, while defensively giving up just 50 points per game.
Fury Boys Over Westminster Catawba (11/18)
The varsity boys' basketball teamcontinued their winning ways with a 100-65 victory over Westminster Catawba, on Friday night, in their home opener. Strong shooting once again was the key to the Furies success. Andy Bell, Jack Young, and KevinReinemund all scored over 20 points for the Furies. Strong play off the bench held off an early second half charge from the Catawba boys.
Next on the docket is Asheboro H.S. Tuesday on the road. The boys are off to a 4 - 0 start!
Boys' Basketball Over Cannon School (11/15)
The boys’ varsity basketball team won its third game in a row Tuesday night, when they defeated Cannon School 71 - 49. Strong guard play by Kevin Reinemund, Jack Young, and Colton Bishop made the difference for the Furies. The inside play of big men Thor Emilsson and Matt Reyes along with the sharp shooting of Andy Bell have the team off to a 3-0 start.
The team’s first home game will be this Friday night when they take on Westminster Catawba at 7:30 p.m.
