Middle School Girls Win Basketball Championship
The Middle School Varsity Girls’ Basketball team ended their season by playing in their first ever conference tournament at Summit School. In round one, the Furies faced Millennium Charter and advanced to the semi-finals with a 39-14 win. Anna French led the way with 17 points. In the semi-finals, FCDS played the host school Summit Eagles and once again were able to advance with a solid 22-11 victory. Josie Hanes and French led a balanced attack with eight and six points respectively. In the final, FCDS faced longtime nemesis Wesleyan Academy from High Point. The Furies picked a great time to play their best game of the year defeating Wesleyan for the third time this season 45-16. Elizabeth Singletary nailed three three-point field goals and finished with 14 points scored. Sydney Browder, Kate Singletary and French also chipped in with eight points apiece. The team finished the season with a 16-4 record. Congratulations on a great season and on the conference championship.
Cary Takes Furies Girls (2/16)
The FCDS girls’ varsity basketball team hosted Cary Academy Tuesday on Senior Night. The Furies fell behind in the first quarter 16-6 but nearly made up the gap by halftime as Jenny Temas and Emily Brown combined for eight points in the second quarter. The team trailed by a score of 24-20 at intermission. Cary Academy made a hard charge in the third quarter however and finished with a 63-47 win over the Furies. Jenny Temas led the Furies with 16 points and 12 rebounds while teammate Hannah Allgood added 13 points. Caroline Rearden had five blocks and four rebounds, Taylor Duggins chipped in with nine points, and Emily Brown scored eight. Greensboro Day Over Furies Girls (2/4)
After eight days off, the FCDS girls’ varsity basketball team was finally back in action and faced a very determined Greensboro Day School. Unfortunately the Furies came up on the short end of a 57-54 final score. FCDS led for the entire game until the last two minutes. The difference in the game was rebounding as GDS outrebounded FCDS 39-20. The Furies will host Cary Academy Tuesday February 9 on Senior Night and will celebrate their four seniors: Hannah Allgood, Caroline Rearden, Kaitlyn Kiser and Carrie Logan. Providence Day Over Furies Girls (1/26)
The FCDS Varsity Girls hosted the number two ranked team in the state, Providence Day from Charlotte. The game see-sawed during the first half with Providence Day leading 23-20. Emily Brown kept the Furies close by scoring 6 points in the second quarter, while Jenny Temas and Carrie Logan held down the inside scorers for Providence Day. The third quarter saw the Furies take the lead 30-28 with big free throws by Farrahn Wood and clutch baskets by Taylor Duggins and Temas. However, Providence Day put together a fourth quarter charge outscoring the Furies 20-9 in the final period and pulling out the win 48-39. The Furies were lead by Brown's 12 points and Wood's ten points. Taylor Duggins had seven assists.

Furies Girls Over Wesleyan (1/22)
The FCDS Girls Varsity played host to conference rival Weslyan Christian Academy Friday night in the CAC. The first quarter was back and forth with FCDS leading at the end of one period 10-9. Emily Brown kept the Furies ahead by scoring four points in the quarter. Farrahn Wood and Hannah Allgood combined for 14 points in the second quarter as the Furies ran away from Weslyan to end the first half with a 29-11 lead. Wood continued her hot streak with eight points in the third quarter as the Furies held a 50-16 lead at the end of the third period. The team spread the scoring in the fourth quarter among four players as Wood hit her fifth 3 pointer of the game, one away from the school record of six set by Girls JV assistant coach Sarah Henson. Wood led the scoring with 18 points, followed by Allgood's 13, Brown's 9 and Temas' eight points. Allgood also had 8 rebounds and Temas had seven. Taylor Duggins kept everyone happy with nine assists and scored six points. The Furies play state top ten rival Providence Day Tuesday January 26 in the CAC.

The Fury girls’ varsity basketball team traveled to West Stokes to play the Wildcats in King, NC on Wednesday night. West Stokes shot out to a 13-6 first quarter lead on their way to a halftime advantage of 20-16. Jenny Temas kept it close with six second-quarter points. Then, after the intermission, Emily Brown took over the game, shooting 75% from the field and scoring 10 third quarter points. Temas also added six points in that third quarter as the Furies outscored the Wildcats 21-5 to gain a 37-25 advantage. Fury point guard Taylor Duggins took the team home by scoring seven fourth quarter points. Brown and Duggins each scored 13 points for the game, Temas added 12 and Farrahn Wood scored six. Duggins also had five assists while Carrie Logan had 10 rebounds and three steals. Wood and Temas each had eight rebounds and three steals.

Furies Girls Host MLK Showcase (1/18)
The FCDS Girls’ Varsity basketball team played host for the MLK Showcase Monday in the Childress Activities Center. Ten teams participated in the event including Oak Hill, Page H.S., Carolina Day School, Providence Day, and Calvary Baptist. The Furies matched up against Calvary and came away with a convincing 67-36 victory. Carrie Logan led a fast trapping Fury defense with seven first-half steals while Hannah Allgood led the offense with 12 first-quarter points. Allgood netted six more points in the second quarter to lead the Furies to a 39-18 halftime advantage. Allgood and Taylor Duggins combined for 16 second-half points as FCDS cruised to a 67-36 win. For the game, Allgood led all scorers with 26 points and added nine rebounds and four steals. Duggins tallied 14 points and dished out six assists while Kaitlyn Kiser was the third double digit scorer for FCDS with 10 points. Logan finished with seven rebounds and seven steals and Jenny Temas and Farrahn Wood pitched in with seven rebounds each.

FCDS Girls vs. Charlotte Christian
The FCDS Girls’ Varsity basketball team played host to the #2 ranked team in the state Saturday afternoon in the Childress Activities Center and the gave the visiting Knights of Charlotte Christian all they could handle before finally giving way 37-32. The Furies led after one quarter 7-6 behind Farrahn Wood's four points. The Furies played tough defense led by Jenny Temas and Carrie Logan and took the lead into halftime by a score of 16-14, with Wood's eight points accounting for half of the Fury offense. However, in the third quarter Charlotte Christian's 6’ 4” center, Gigi Bailey, and Maryah Mazyck combined for 12 points as CCS took a 26-22 lead at the end of three quarters. Wood knocked down two three-pointers and scored eight points in the fourth quarter but Charlotte Christian held on for the 37-32 win. Wood led all scorers with 16 points and also added eight rebounds while teammate Jenny Temas had four rebounds, two blocked shots, and two steals.

FCDS vs. Greensboro Day
The FCDS Girls’ Varsity basketball team hosted conference rival Greensboro Day School Friday night in the Childress Activities Center. The Furies jumped out to a 21-9 first quarter lead led by Hannah Allgood's eight point quarter. The Furies continued their surge in the second quarter and led at halftime 29-16. Taylor Duggins led the scoring in the third quarter with six points and Liza Kate Wall closed out the victory with five fourth-quarter points as FCDS cruised to the 48-28 win. Allgood led the team in scoring for the game with 13 points and also added six steals. Taylor Duggins had 10 points and adding six assists. Carrie Logan played strong defense and she also grabbed eight rebounds.

FCDS vs. Durham Academy
Wednesday, Jan. 13 the FCDS Girls Varsity hosted Durham Academy at the CAC.Durham charged out to an 8-5 first quarter lead and led at intermission as well 23-22 with Hannah Allgood and Farrahn Wood keeping it close with 7 points and 5 points respectively in the first half. Allgood with 6 points and Taylor Duggins with 5 points led a third quarter charge that saw the Furies outscore Durham 16-9 and grab the lead after three periods 38-31. Duggins and Jenny Temas combined for 9 points in the fourth quarter leading FCDS to a 49-37 victory. Allgood lead the scoring with 15 points, followed by Duggins with 11, Temas 9 and Wood 8.

Furies Girls Take Ravens 55-48 (1/8)
The FCDS girls’ varsity basketball team hosted visiting Ravenscoft from Raleigh on Friday night in the CAC. Ravenscroft, who had already defeated fourth ranked Providence Day earlier in the season, was looking for another big win and jumped out to a 21-14 first quarter lead. Hot shooting Hilary Margolis led the way with 11 first quarter points for the Ravens. Margolis, along with sister Caroline, combined for five 3-pointers in the quarter. Forsyth’s shooting guard Farrahn Wood's eight first-quarter points kept it from being an even larger margin. FCDS senior Hannah Allgood then took over the game beginning in the second quarter when she scored 12 clutch points leading the Fury surge that enabled the team to take a 32-26 halftime advantage. The third quarter saw Ravenscroft close the gap to 42-39 however Allgood and Wood combined for 11 more points in a hard fought fourth quarter to seal the deal for the Furies 55-48. Allgood finished the game with 23 points and 15 rebounds while Wood had 17 points, including four clutch fourth quarter free throws. Jenny Temas also chipped in with six points and six rebounds.
The team’s next game will be Tuesday night when they host Durham Academy at 5:00 p.m. in the Childress Activities Center.

Charlotte Country Day Over Furies Girls (1/6)
The FCDS girls’ varsity basketball team traveled to Charlotte to take on Charlotte Country Day Wednesday. After a slow start that caused the Furies to trail 17-13 at halftime, the team turned in a solid second half. It was not enough to come away with the win however as Forsyth would eventually lose 49-46 in a game that featured an explosive second half by the Furies. FCDS was led in the second half by Farrahn Wood's 10 points while teammates Hannah Allgood and Taylor Duggins added eight points each. The Fury team tallied a total of 33 second half points. CCDS still held on for the win though as they were led by Beth Erb's 16 points and Furman bound Janice Roberts' 15. Allgood finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead FCDS, Duggins had eight points and seven assists while Wood scored 12 points, including three 3-pointers and also had two blocks.

Furies Girls in McDonald's Invitational (12/29-31)
In a field of 26 teams, mainly Texas 5A public schools, the FCDS girls' varsity made it to the consolation championship game of the McDonald's Invitational Tournament in College Station, Texas and came in 4th out of those 26 teams. After beating two Texas 5A teams, the Furies played a fast Houston Seven Lakes team but lost in a physical game 48-32. The Furies played Seven Lakes nearly even for the second half but a first half surge proved too much to overcome. Hannah Allgood and Taylor Duggins led the scoring for FCDS with 13 points each. Allgood also had 9 rebounds and Jenny Temas had 6 rebounds and played solid defense in the loss.
Page Over Furies Girls in Northwest Shootout (12/22)
The FCDS girls varsity team, playing in the Northwest Shootout in Guilford County came away with a tough 46-39 loss to Page Tuesday night. Page, yet another public 4A power that the Furies have been matched up with this season, used a 24 point fourth quarter to down FCDS. However, the Furies used a hard press and a fast defense to lead at the end of the first, second and third quarters. They shutout Page totally in the second quarter and held the Pirates to 9 points the entire first half. Taylor Duggins led a second quarter surge with 7 points in the period to help FCDS secure a 14-9 halftime lead. Hannah Allgood had a 6 point 3rd quarter as the Furies led 25-22 going into the final period. Duggins poured in 7 points, Allgood 4 and Farrahn Wood 3 in a hard fought 4th quarter but Page took fire to score 24 in the period to close out a 46-39 win. Duggins led the Furies with 17 points while Allgood had 14 points, 10 rebounds and 3 steals. Wood added 6 points and 3 steals.

Furies Girls Take Asheville in Shootout Opener (12/21)
FCDS traveled to Northwest Guilford for their opening game in the Northwest Shootout Monday and came a way with a 78-20 win over Asheville. The Furies took over from the beginning and never looked back. FCDS led at intermission 37-9 with Taylor Duggins leading the way with 11 first half points. Hannah Allgood and Farrahn Wood poured in 10 points each in the second half as the Furies ran away with the game outscoring Asheville 41-11 in the second half. All ten Fury players scored in the game. Allgood finished with 20 points, Duggins had 13, Wood 12. Carrie Logan, Caroline Rearden and Emily Brown each finished with 8 points and Kaitlyn Kiser had 5.

A strong fan contingent followed the FCDS girls’ varsity basketball team to Charlotte and saw the Furies, ranked second in the latest NCISAA 3A state rankings, blitz the Hawks from the outset. The end result was a 64-42 victory for the Furies. Hannah Allgood got the visitors going with a strong six point first quarter as FCDS charged out to a 14-8 lead. Taylor Duggins and Jenny Temas kept the Furies going in the second quarter with four points each as the Furies took a commanding 30-13 lead into the intermission. Allgood and Emily Brown led Forsyth in the third period with eight and six points respectively. Duggins helped close the deal in the fourth quarter with four points. Allgood led the Furies on the night with 16 points, 10 rebounds and 3 steals, along with Temas who also registered a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds. Duggins had 11 points on the night, while Brown and Logan scored 9 each, and Farrahn Wood added 5 points and 7 rebounds. Carolina Rearden and Kaitlyn Kiser, who had 3 steals, played solid defense through out the game, holding Latin to just 24 points over the first three quarters.

"Down Under" Over Furies Girls (12/8)
The FCDS girls’ varsity basketball team entertained the Australian Club team in a fast paced game in the Childress Activities Center on Tuesday. Australia jumped out to an 11-2 lead after the first quarter. The Furies nearly matched Australia point for point during the second and third quarters, as Hannah Allgood led Forsyth with seven points in that span. Farrahn Wood caught fire near the end of the third quarter and continued her torrid shooting into the fourth by hitting three 3-points shots. A strong fourth quarter run by the Furies led by Wood's six points and Taylor Duggins five points cut the lead to seven. Emily Koroneos of Australia scored seven points in the last five minutes however, as Australia pulled away to win the game 50-32. Wood led the Furies with 13 points while Duggins and Allgood added seven points each. Allgood also had eight rebounds.

Furies Girls Over Calvary Cougars 56-49 (12-1)
The FCDS girls’ varsity basketball team got back on the winning track last night in the Childress Activities Center versus rival Calvary Baptist. Jenny Temas and Farrahn Wood helped the Furies jump out to a 15-10 lead at the end of the first quarter by scoring six and five points respectively. Hannah Allgood, in her first action in two weeks, took over in the second quarter by scoring eight points. Allgood ended the first half with 10 points and six assists. FCDS led by a score of 28-17 at the half. Emily Brown and Temas led the charge in the third quarter with four points each as the Furies built a commanding 46-32 lead going into the fourth quarter. Calvary made one last charge in the fourth quarter but the Furies held on, led by Taylor Duggins’ five points in that quarter. The girls finished up with a 56-49 victory over the Cougars. Allgood was the Furies’ statistical leader with 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists, achieving a triple double. Duggins followed with 11 points, and Temas and Wood added 10 points each. Wood also had three steals while Caroline Rearden chipped in with six rebounds.

North Forsyth Finishes Furies in Garber Classic (11/23)
The Furies girls played their final game of the Mary Garber Classic Monday night in a hard fought contest against North Forsyth. The Furies jumped out to a 19-15 lead after one quarter led by Farrahn Wood's 5 points and Jenny Temas' 4 points. North Forsyth came charging back in the second quarter to take a 26-23 lead going into intermission. The third quarter saw the lead exchange hands numerous times with the Vikings leading 41-39 with Taylor Duggins and Emily Brown scoring 4 each to lead the Furies. However North came alive with a surge in the fourth quarter that took them to a 55-47 final score victory. Taylor Duggins led the FCDS girls with 14 points followed by Wood's 12, Temas' 7 and Brown's 6.

Mt. Tabor Takes Furies Girls (11/21)
The FCDS girls’ varsity basketball team went up against perennial 4A public school power Mt. Tabor in the second round of the Mary Garber Classic Saturday night. The Furies played the Spartans toe-to-toe for three quarters before Mt. Tabor's depth took its toll and the Spartans pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 49-36 win. The Furies kept the game close in the first quarter with several big baskets by Emily Brown. Taylor Duggins took over in the second quarter scoring eight points in the period. The team was also aided by a clutch three pointer from Farrahn Wood that pulled the Furies within one point at halftime. Duggins had seven points during a hard fought third quarter that ended with the score knotted at 29. Mt. Tabor's Gabby Oglesby then scored six points in the fourth quarter to lead the Spartans to the win. FCD was led by Duggins with 17 points, while Brown added 8 and Wood scored 5. Mt. Tabor was led by Oglesby's 16 points and Melessa Callicott with 13.

The FCDS varsity girls basketball team opened their play in the Mary Garber Classic with a solid 54-33 victory over the 4A Reagan Raiders Thursday night. Farrahn Wood ignited the Furies with eight points in the first quarter, outscoring the entire Reagan team in that period. Emily Brown took over the second quarter by scoring six points which equaled the Reagan output, as the Furies pulled away and led at halftime 25-12. Jenny Temas and Taylor Duggins lead the way in the third quarter as FCDS took total command and a 39-16 lead by the start of the fourth quarter. Caroline Rearden closed out a strong fourth quarter with four points as Forsyth took home the win. Carrie Logan was the defensive key as she, Temas, and Rearden helped hold down Reagan's ECU bound leading scorer to just four points in the first three quarters. Kaitlyn Kiser added a spark throughout the game with strong defense and ball handling. Wood led the scoring with 16 points and five assists while Taylor Duggins added 14, seven assists, and three steals. Emily Brown followed those two with nine points scored. The team is now 4-0 and the head into Saturday night's second round against Mt. Tabor at 7:30 at the Atkins H.S. gym. Fury Girls at Calvary Tip-Off (11/14)
In the championship game of the Calvary Tip-Off Tournament FCDS played a very determined Calvary Baptist team. The Furies lead would go back and forth throughout the physical, hard-fought game. With three starters on the bench in the second quarter with foul problems, Farrahn Wood and Emily Brown kept FCDS in the game. Exhibiting great hustle and determination in the second half, the Furies went on to win the tournament championship. Three players were named to the all-tournament team: Emily Brown, Carrie Logan and tourney MVP Taylor Duggins.
The Furies will host High Point Christian at FCDS on Tuesday at 5:30 in the CAC.
