The cross-country team competed at the NCISAA championship meet on Friday, October 24. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams ran their best team races of the year to earn 6th place finishes. Hannah Harris (22:22 - PR), Mandy Wolfert (22:34 – PR) and Katie Stockton (22:35 in her last race as a Fury) demonstrated great teamwork as they ran most of the race together and completed this fine team performance.
The boys were led by the 18th place finish of Taylor Boone. He ran 17:11, which began a string of personal best times that continued through the top 5. Philip Waugh (17:45 – PR), Westley Fitch (17:49- PR in his last race as a Fury) and McLain Wilkinson (17:50 – PR) ran their best races of the year to finish together in 32nd, 33rd and 34th. Cross-Country Teams Battle at PACIS (10/16)
The boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams ventured to the tough course at Gibson Park as the 2 time defending PACIS champions. The girls secured their 3rd straight championship by cruising to victory over Greensboro Day and Wesleyan. The girls were led by the 2nd place finish of Hollis Lineberger, who earned all-conference honors for the 3rd straight year. Elizabeth Lang and Carrie Logan ran strong to finish 3rd and 4th. This was Elizabeth’s 3rd consecutive all-conference performance and Carrie’s first. Mandy Wolfert and Hannah Harris ran together throughout the race and represented the Middle School well by placing 6th and 7th overall. Mandy earned all-conference honors for her performance. Li Rusterholz (8th), Kristen Orr (9th) and Kate Cavenaugh (10th) rounded out the top 10.
The boys faced a tough test from Greensboro Day and Wesleyan. This was a great race to watch as runners from all 3 teams battled at the front of the pack. The boys were led by Taylor Boone’s 4th place finish, which earned him all-conference honors for the 3rd straight year. He was followed by senior Westley Fitch who earned his 2nd all-conference honor. Philip Waugh, McLain Wilkinson, Ben Stallworth and Daniel Schreiner secured places 9 -12 to give the Furies 6 runners ahead of Greensboro Day’s 5th runner. David Bohle (16th) rounded out the top 7 for the boys. The Furies ran well but the boys from Greensboro Day were too strong up front and they clinched the victory. Alex Sadosky was the lone Fury to PR on this tough course in a time of 20:46.
This was the final race for seniors Derek Hudgins, Erin Hull, Kathryn Slaughter, Madeline Lang and Molly Kellam. They have set a great example for the team with their leadership and enthusiasm. Seniors Westley Fitch and Katie Stockton will run one more race in Friday’s state championship meet. The team will greatly miss this special group of seniors.
The Furies complete their season at the NCISAA Championship meet on Friday, October 24 in Cary.

Furies Off to a Running Start (8/28)
The cross-country team began its season with an impressive performance against North Raleigh Christian. The 2nd ranked girls were led by the always solid 1-2 combination of Elizabeth Lang and Hollis Lineberger. They finish 2nd and 3rd overall. Carrie Logan, running her first race as a Fury, ran a strong 3rd for the Furies. She was followed closely by captain Katie Stockton, which gave the Furies 4 of the top 6 spots. After this group the Furies kept charging with Mandy Wolfert (first race), Kyle Chase and Kate Cavenaugh (first race) rounding out the top 7 in this great performance.
The boys faced a stiff challenge from a North Raleigh Christian team that beat them in last year’s state meet. The Fury boys ran their best race in recent memory to win by 6 points. North Raleigh’s first runner crossed the line in the number one spot but the Furies demonstrated the importance of team by taking the next 3 spots with Westley Fitch, Taylor Boone and Philip Waugh. Hunter Sturkie, Ben Stallworth and McLain Wilkinson all finished in the top 10 to close out the Knights. Garrett Royster and Daniel Schreiner crossed the line together in a photo finish to round out the top 7.
The team appreciates the tremendous fan support. The Furies will compete at the Seahawk Invitational next weekend.
