Furies Football Zips Hickory Grove (9/24)
The Forsyth Country Day School varsity football team rolled to a big Carolina Piedmont Conference win over Hickory Grove last Saturday night. The Furies won the game by a final score of 34-0, posting their first shut-out of the year. FCDS was led by quarterback Brad Rooney, who finished 16-23 passing, with totals of 153 yards and three touchdowns. Jack Young pulled in two of those touchdown receptions and Christian Latham snagged the third. The Furies’ ground attack was led by Evan Noble, who added a rushing touchdown to the FCDS scoring and Max Lum who did the same. The FCDS defense also played a very strong game, holding Hickory Grove to just 119 total yards of offense. Jim Coleman was applying pressure all night and finished the game with eight tackles and two sacks. J.J. Dunn helped seal the win for FCDS with a late interception. Next up the team will face Westminster Catawba at home this Friday. Kickoff for the game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
Christ School Over Furies Football (9/2)
The Forsyth Country Day School varsity football team lost a tough game, to an extremely talented Christ School team last Friday, by a final score was 35-13. The Furies went into halftime trailing by just one point but Christ School came out strong in the second half and wrested control of the game from the Furies. A number of small injuries during the game also played a part in keeping FCDS from getting rolling.The team was led offensively by quarterback Brad Rooney, who completed 15 of 27 passes for 138 yards with two touchdowns. Kurt Hertz and Jack Young each caught a touchdown pass. Defensively, the Furies were led once again by Max Lum who registered 10 tackles. Tyler Rubble also had a good day with nine tackles. Next up for the Furies will be a showdown with North Raleigh Christian, at home this Friday.
Furies Football Opens with Win (8/25)
The FCDS varsity football team opened its home schedule with a 24-18 win over a very tough team from Harrell’s Christian Academy. The Furies were led offensively by quarterback Brad Rooney. Brad scored three first half touchdowns to carry the Furies into halftime with a 21-0 lead. Brad finished the night with 210 yards on the ground. Harrell’s fought back in the second half but the FCDS defense was able to hold them off. The defense was led by senior co-captains Max Lum and Jim Coleman. Max finished with 12 tackles and Jim added 10. Austin Mosley also played a key role on the defensive side, adding a key interception. Fury kicker Alex Sims was three for three on extra points and added a 37 yard field goal to give the Furies a little breathing room in the second half. Next up the Furies head to Christ School to take on the Greenies. That game will be on Friday, September 2 and kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
