Furies Football Takes Christ School in First Round (11/6)
The varsity football team defeated Christ School in the first round of the playoffs by a final score of 36-7.
FCDS quarterback Luke Johnson ran the offense to perfection as he completed nine passes for 110 yards and two touchdowns. Seth Constable ran the ball well, gaining 119 yards on 20 carries and adding two rushing touchdowns. Nick Sink caught two passes for 12 yards and also scored one touchdown. Sam Pulliam rushed for 30 yards and caught the ball twice for a total of 27 yards while Artie Shaw caught one pass while also having an excellent night kicking the ball. Artie was 100% on his extra points and punted the ball three times for a 42 yard average.
On defense, the Furies were led by Will Eversmann who had four tackles and two quarterback sacks. Nick Sink added five tackles and one sack while Peter Bambalis had one interception. The FCDS defense held Christ School to minus six yards of total offense in the first half while the offense finished the game with 260 yards of total offense.

The Furies (8-3) will now advance to the state semi-final round to face First Assembly (11-0) in Concord on Friday night. Kickoff for that game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

Furies Football Finishes with Win (10/30)
The Fury Football team finished its last game of the regular season on a high note by defeating Southlake 45-22.
The Fury offense controlled the line of scrimmage all night helping the team rush for 266 yards. Seth Constable scored three touchdowns while Jed Helvey, Nick Sink and Artie Shaw each added one. Quarterback Kurt Hertz had a very solid game, completing six of seven passes for 87 yards and two touchdowns. Sink caught five passes while Shaw caught one that went for another Fury touchdown. Constable finished the game with 100 yards rushing, Helvey added 56 yards, Sam Pulliam fought hard to gain 68 yards, and Rob Price ran for 33 yards.
On the defensive side of the ball, Will Eversmann led the way with nine tackles and two quarterback sacks. Pulliam also had nine tackles while Sink registered eight tackles and two sacks. Helvey finished with seven tackles and he also notched two sacks. The defense finished with 66 tackles, seven sacks, two safeties and multiple pass breakups.
The Fury offense ended the regular season with 1160 yards rushing and 1462 passing. The team scored 271 points in its 10 games while the defense only allowed 152 points. For the season FCDS team leaders were Constable with 12 rushing touchdowns, Luke Johnson with seven passing touchdowns, and Sink with five receiving touchdowns. The Furies defense finished the regular season with 520 tackles, 19 sacks, 18 interceptions, and 12 fumble recoveries.
The Furies are now 7-3. The team has been seeded fourth in the eight team NCISAA state football tournament. FCDS will host its first-ever home football playoff game on Friday, November 6 against fifth seeded Christ School (Arden). Kickoff for that game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
Furies Football Takes AFC Rangers for Seniors Night (10/23)
The FCDS football team played a very strong game on Senior Night as they beat the AFC Rangers by a final score of 37-14. All nine seniors played a key role in the victory. The Fury defense had an incredible game forcing nine turnovers and scoring 23 points.
On the Furies first possession in the first quarter the offense marched down the field 70 yards and capped the drive with a touchdown pass from Luke Johnson to Nick Sink from 16 yards out. Place kicker Artie Shaw added the extra point for the 7-0 lead. Later in the first half Ben Coles added a safety to put the Furies up 9-0. In the second quarter the Rangers scored quickly to cut the lead to 9-6 but Seth Constable punched the ball into the end zone from 13 yards out to put the Furies up 17-6.
In the second half the Furies defense took over the scoring as Peter Bambalis intercepted the ball and returned it 14 yards into the end zone. Soon after that return Ben Coles picked off another pass and returned it 25 yards to put the Furies up 31-6. In the fourth quarter Jay Baughan recovered a fumble and returned it 50 yards for yet another defensive score, raising the Fury lead to 37-14.
All nine seniors played well tonight with the following a some of the highlights for those players:
John Hewell had one run for 15 yards and 1one pass reception for eight yards;
Nick Sink caught three passes, scored one touchdown, and made six tackles on defense;
Peter Bambalis had three interceptions and returned one of them for a touchdown;
Sam Pulliam ran the ball for 47 yards, caught one pass for 15 yards. He added five tackles on defense;
Artie Shaw made three tackles on defense, and punted four times for a total of 135 yards. Two punts came to rest inside the opponent’s 15 yards line;
Will Eversmann ran the ball twice for 11 yards and added five tackles on defense;
James Strickland played extremely well on defense with multiple passes broken up. He also did a good job, making several key blocks as a wide receiver;
Garrison Pollock played strong on both the offensive and defensive line;
Jed Helvey ran the ball well, finishing with 27 yards and also made five tackles on defense.
The Furies are now 6-3 and will play their final game of the regular season next week at Southlake.
Furies Shutout Northside Christian (10/16)
Homecoming was capped off with an impressive 22-0 performance by the varsity football team to improve their record to 5-3. The Furies defense stood strong and held NCA to 116 yards of total offense. Early in the first half the Furies opened with a 3 yard TD pass from Luke Johnson to Nick Sink. Jed Helvey ran in the two point conversion to go up 8-0. To start the 2nd half, Seth Constable returned the kickoff 70 yards to put the Furies up 15-0 (Artie Shaw added the extra point). Later in the 3rd quarter Luke Johnson threw a perfect pass to Richard Stockton who made a great catch and ran into end zone to complete a 33 yard TD strike. The score at the end of the 3rd quarter was 22-0 which is where it stood for the remainder of the game.
On offense, Luke Johnson completed 5 passes for 76 yards and 2 TD’s. Sam Pulliam, Jed Helvey, and Seth constable all ran the ball well to rush for just under 100 yards.
Defensively, Ben Coles added 10 tackles. Jed Helvey added 7, Nick Sink had 6, and Peter Bambalis added 6 respectfully.
The Furies have another home game on home on October 23 for senior night to face the AFC rangers.

First Assembly Over Furies Football (10/9)
The Furies travelled to Concord last night to face 7-0 First Assembly. The Furies would strike first as Sam Pulliam powered his way into the endzone to put the team up 7-0. FCDS got the ball back and Luke Johnson connected with John Hewell for an 89 yard pass down to the First Assembly five yard line. First Assembly forced a turnover however and stopped the Furies from extending their lead. In the 2nd quarter First Assembly scored twice to make the half-time score 14-7. Artie Shaw added a 23 yard field goal to cut the lead to 14-10 but First Assembly then scored 12 unasnswered point to go up 26-10. With 6 minutes remaining in the game Luke Johnson connected with Will Eversmann on a 20 yard touchdown pass to make the final score 26-16. The Furies would add one more late run but were unable to score deep inside First Assembly's redzone.
On offense, Luke Johnson passed for 192 yards and one TD. John Hewell caught three passes for 112 yards. Nick Sink caught three passes for 35 yards.
On defense, Sam Pulliam led the way with 12 tackles while Lauri Antilla added 10. James Strickland also had one interception.
The Furies are now 4-3 and look forward to homecoming on Friday night against Northside Christian.
Furies Football Takes Christ School (10/1)
The varsity football team improved their record to 4-2 last night by defeating Christ School by a score of 42-14. The Furies offense scored on its very first possession by marching down the field 60 yards and capped that off with a Seth Constable 7-yard TD run. On the ensuing kickoff, the Furies were able to recover the kick and take possession deep inside the Greenies territory. Sam Pulliam ran the ball extremely hard and scored a TD from 14 yards out to take a quick 13-0 lead. Seth Constable ran the ball well as he finished with 132 all purpose yards and 3 TD’s. Nick Sink made some solid blocks and was also able to catch 3 passes for 57 yards and 1 TD. John Hewell also played well as he caught a 50-yard pass from Luke Johnson. John Hewell also ran the ball well as he finished with 22 yards and 1 TD. Artie Shaw had another great night kicking the ball as he nailed numerous extra points, a 35-yard field goal and a 60-yard punt which was downed at the 1-yard line. In the 2nd quarter Luke Johnson connected with Nick Sink on for a 15-yard TD pass to put the Furies up 35-0 at half time. The Furies were able to put one more score on the board when Seth Constable scored from 27 yards out to go up 42-0. Luke Johnson completed 6 of 9 passes for 131 yards and 1 TD. Luke’s performance put him over 1000 passing yards for the season.
The Furies defense stood very strong and held Christ School to negative 25 yards of offense in the first half. Our entire defense played extremely well with Will Eversmann, Harold Cha, Lauri Antilla, Sam Pulliam, Ben Coles, and Nick Sink each having at least 1 tackle for a loss. Harold Cha and Nick Sink each added a QB sack while Seth Constable was able to add an interception. Lauri Antilla and Chandler White forced two fumbles while Jed Helvey was able to block one punt and also recover a fumble.
The Furies (4-2) will travel Concord to face the very talented, undefeated First Assembly (5-0) on Friday October 9.Furies Take Down #1 Ranked Hickory Grove (9/25)
The Furies wrapped up Spirit Week at FCDS on a high note by defeating the #1 ranked team in the state, Hickory Grove, by a score of 21-14. Our offense started quickly and marched the ball deep into Hickory Grove territory when Seth Constable took the ball into the end zone from 5 yards out. Artie Shaw nailed the extra point to put the Furies up 7-0. In the 2nd quarter Luke Johnson connected 56 yards with John Hewell down the sideline for another touchdown to put the Furies up 14-0. Our defense was very strong in the first half and held Hickory Grove scoreless. In the 2nd half Hickory grove answered the call by scoring two touchdowns to tie the game 14-14. Our offense took over and drove the ball 80 yards which was capped off by a Seth Constable 6-yard touchdown run. Artie Shaw was perfect again tonight as he was 3-3 on extra points. Hickory Grove had one last chance to move the ball and tie the game up again but with less than 2 minutes left our defense stood strong and forced a turnover to secure the win.
Luke Johnson led the offense by completing 7 of 13 passes for 143 yards and 1 TD. The Furies had 6 different rushers combine for a total of 106 rushing yards. Seth constable and Sam Pulliam led the way with 28 rushing yards each. John Hewell caught 3 passes for 70 yards and 1 TD. Jed Helvey ran the ball for 12 yards and caught 1 pass for 54 yards. Will Eversmann also caught two passes for 15 yards.
Our defense was led by Lauri Antilla who had 12 tackles and 1 INT. Sam Pulliam also played very strong as he finished with 11 tackles. Ben Coles had 8 tackles and 1 QB sack. Jed Helvey was also able to pick off a pass to help secure the Furies victory. Our Defensive line played extremely well the entire game and was led by senior captain Garrison Pollock.

The Furies are now 3-2 and will travel to Asheville to play Christ School on Thursday October 1. The game will be televised on the local ABC channel at 7:30 p.m.Ravenscroft Over Furies Football (9/17)
The FCDS varsity football team travelled to Raleigh to face a very talented Ravenscroft team on Thursday night. Ravenscroft jumped out to 14-0 lead at half time. The Furies responded quickly by scoring on their first possession of the second half when Sam Pulliam powered his way into the end zone. Artie Shaw continued to kick the ball well as he nailed the extra point to cut Ravenscroft’s lead to 14-7. The Furies were able to march the ball well into the Ravenscroft red zone on several more occasions but were unable to convert on a few key fourth down conversions. Luke Johnson led the Fury offense by rushing for 33 yards and passing for 195 yards. Luke’s main target was Will Eversmann who caught six passes for 74 yards. Artie Shaw and Richard Stockton also played extremely well at the wide receiver position by adding five catches. The Defense was led by Will Eversmann and Lauri Anttila who had nine total tackles each. Sam Pulliam also played a very strong game by adding seven tackles, one of which was for a loss. Ben Coles also added seven tackles and had one interception, despite playing the game with one hand in a cast. Kurt Hertz played well at strong safety and was able to grab an interception giving the Furies excellent field position. The Fury football team will now face Hickory Grove, the #1 ranked team in the state, on Friday September 25th at 7pm at home on the Smith Football Field.
Furies Football Takes North Raleigh Christian (9/11)
The Fury football team improved their record to 2-1 tonight by defeating North Raleigh Christian by a score of 36-14. North Raleigh scored first on their opening position to go up to an early 7-0 lead. The Furies answered back quickly when Luke Johnson connected with John Hewell in the end zone on a 16 yard passing play. Artie Shaw nailed the extra point to tie the game at 7-7. In the 2nd quarter Will Eversmann plunged into the end zone on a 1 yard run. Artie Shaw again split the uprights to put the Furies up 14-7 at half time.
Jack Young returned the kickoff to start the 2nd half 85 yards for a touchdown. Jed Helvey ran the ball on the 2 point conversion to put the Furies up 22-7. In the 4th quarter the Furies kept the pressure on when Richard Stockton ran the ball 18 yards for a TD. The extra point was good as Artie Shaw went 4 for 4 tonight on extra points. Kurt Hertz would add one more touchdown to put the Furies up 36-7. North Raleigh would answer back though scoring with 10 seconds left in the game to make the final score 36-14.
The Fury offense was led by Luke Johnson, who completed 13 of 19 passes for 215 yards and 1 passing TD. Nick Sink caught 4 passes for 109 yards. John Hewell also had 4 catches for 55 yards on the night. Richard Stockton ran the ball well, averaging 10.2 yards per carry as he rushed for 51 yards on 5 attempts. Jed Helvey also ran the ball well as he rushed for 57 yards on 13 attempts. The Furies ended the game with 402 yards of total offense.
The Fury defense was led by Ben Coles, Lauri Antilla, and Nick Sink who had 6 tackles each. Ben Coles also had 2 QB sacks, while Garrison Pollock and Kyle Buffkin added 1 each. Jack Young recovered a fumble while Peter Bambalis had an interception.
The Furies will face Ravenscroft on Thursday night in Raleigh.
Furies Football Falls to Westminster Catawba Christian 27-13 (8/28)
After an hour long rain delay the Furies again opened quickly with Seth Constable returning an interception 80 yards for a touchdown that staked the Furies to an early 6-0 lead. Artie Shaw nailed the extra point that put the Furies up 7-0. Westminster answered back quickly with a touchdown of their own but their extra point attempt sailed wide, making the score 7-6. The Furies answered back with an 80 yard drive that put them ahead by a score of 13-6. Westminster scored once again, late in the first half, cutting the Furies lead to 1 point at 13-12. Unfortunately Westminster took control of the game in the second half and went on to win 27-13. Westminster Catawba excelled on special team all night blocking three punts and one extra point.
The FCDS offense was lead by Luke Johnson who completed 17 of 28 passes for 198 yards and 1 TD. Nick Sink caught six passes; John Hewell grabbed five, while Sam Pulliam brought in four. The Furies were unable to get much going offensively in the second half however as they were held scoreless.
The defense was lead by Ben Coles who had 11 tackles. Jed Helvey added six tackles, and Nick Sink had 5.
The Furies are now 1-1 and look to improve upon their record as they play North Raleigh Christian School at home on Smith Field on September 11 at 7 p.m.
Furies Football First Over Fayetteville Christian (8/21)
The Fury football team started its season off on a high note by defeating Fayetteville Christian School 32-0. On the very first play of the game Seth Constable returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for the Furies first touchdown of the night. Luke Johnson led the Fury offense as he completed 7 of 9 passes for 153 yards and 3 touchdowns (2 passing and 1 rushing). Nick Sink had 3 catches for 66 yards and 1 TD. Sam Pulliam had 3 receptions for 24 yards. Sam Pulliam also rushed the ball well as he ran for 21 yards on 4 attempts. Peter Bambalis caught the ball twice for a total of 46 yards and 1 TD. Richard Stockton gained 50 yards on 6 attempts on the ground. The defensive unit stood strong the entire evening by holding FCS to only 120 yards of total offense and 0 points. The defense was led by Ben Coles, who had 6.5 solo tackles and 3 assisted tackles. Sam Pulliam added 5.5 tackles and had 1 interception. Peter Bambalis, Seth Constable, and Jake Young also each added 1 INT a piece. Nick Sink also played strong on defense with 5 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, and 1 QB sack. The Furies will now face Westminster Catawba on Friday night at 7 p.m. at home on the Smith football field.
