Bert was a four-sport standout who played soccer and starred for the Furies as a goal scorer from 1975-1977.  He helped FCDS to three straight PACIS championships.
He was voted to the PACIS All-Conference team three years in a row and led the Furies in scoring in 1976.

Bert helped lead FCDS to the state sectional championship in 1976, the last year that public and private schools played in the same state tournament.
He was voted to the NCISAA All-State soccer team in 1976 and 1977.
Bert was All-Conference in basketball in his senior year, helping the Furies compete in the state finals in the 1978 season.  A team captain, he was the team’s second leading scorer that year.

In the spring season of 1976, Bert played tennis, earning All-Conference honors as the champion at the #3 singles spot.

When Forsyth added baseball, he became a left-handed pitcher who helped the Furies to a PACIS championship in the team’s first year in existence.  Bert sported a remarkable ERA of 1.0.  The team MVP and captain for 3 years, he was also named to the PACIS All-Conference team during that stretch. 

In recognition of his outstanding athletic accomplishments, Bert was voted the Outstanding Male Athlete in 1977 and 1978.

After graduation, he went on to play both 2 years of soccer and 3 years of baseball at UNC-Chapel Hill. 

Today, Bert is the Managing Director for BB&T Capital Markets.
