To fulfill FCDS's two-sport graduation requirement, Blake decided she'd try the cross- country team and the track team. She was a natural from the start.

She was All-State in Cross-Country and Track for 4 years, winning 11 of a possible 12 state titles in the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m.

She went on to be the captain of UNC Chapel Hill's team, where she
won the ACC 1500m and 3000m her senior year, and set ACC meet and school records in the 1500
was 2x All-ACC and an All-American on the distance medley relay

After college Blake was sponsored by New Balance before switching to Reebok.

Blake’s Career Highlights include:

1999: Pan Am Games 5000m bronze medalist

2000:  Penn Relays 5000m champion;
7th in the Olympic trials at 10,000m

2003:   4th-place finish in the 10,000m at the USA Outdoor Championships;
1st  Twin Cities Marathon (her debut at that distance, achieving Olympic “A” standard in the process; Blake’s marathon debut is the 4th fastest US debut)
3rd at USA 5k championship
Ranked #4 in both the marathon and 10,000m by Track & Field News

2004:   4th at 2004 Olympic Marathon Trials (after leading for 17 miles!);

2005:   Member of the Bronze medal team at the Cross Country World Championships in St. Etienne, France; 15th as an individual
USA Outdoor Championships 10,000m silver medalist, qualifying for the Track and Field World Championships in Helsinki, finished 22nd in the world
3rd at USA 15km Championships;
1st 5000m at Palo Alto;
Ranked #4 in the US in 10,000m;
Placed 6th in the Chicago marathon

2006: Cross Country National Championships: 1st in 8k & 3rd in 4k
Placed 11th at the Cross Country World Championships in Japan
3rd in the 5000m at the USA Outdoor Championships
1st USA 15k championship
1st at the 3000m Adidas Classic
3rd at the 1500m Reebok Grand Prix

In recognition of her outstanding year, Blake was named 2006 Cross Country Athlete of The Year and received the Doris Heritage Award from the USATF Cross Country Running Council.

Track and Field News ranked Blake 1st in the US for the 3000m, 4th in the 5000m, and 7th in the 1500m for 2006.
