
Bobby Emken ‘81
Soccer
Inducted by his soccer coach, Mr. John Danforth
Bobby played sweeper on the 1979 and 1980 soccer teams, leading the Furies to back-to-back undefeated seasons and two State Championships.
The record for FCDS was 38-0-5 in those two years, a feat has not been matched in the history of the soccer program
His senior year, Bobby was a tri-captain of the team and earned numerous awards, including:
Player of the Year in the PACIS
NCISAA All-State and Player of the Year
He was named to the National Soccer Coaches of America All-American Team in 1980 as one of two players in NC to earn the honor.
He was also featured in “Faces in the Crowd” in the December 1980 issue of Sports Illustrated
Bobby went on to play for Wake Forest University, where he was a scholarship athlete for 4 years. A captain in his senior year, Bobby was named to the All-ACC Academic Honor Roll his last 3 years.
Today, Bobby is an attorney with Reynolds American. He is the father of FCDS 5th Grader Alex and 2nd Grader Nicholas Emken.
