Suzanne Black

Suzanne Black ‘96

Swimming, Cross-Country
Inducted by current FCDS swimmer Elizabeth Symons, Class of 2008.

Suzanne won 7 state titles during the four years that she swam at FCDS. 

She was an 8x High School All-American between 1993 and 1996 in the 200yard Freestyle and 500yard Freestyle      

During her sophomore year at FCDS, Suzanne was selected to the U.S. Olympic Festival, which came with an invitation to swim in a meet for All-Americans.

Suzanne also ran Cross-Country and was a member of the 1992 State Championship team.

After graduating from FCDS, Suzanne attended Southern Methodist University where she lettered in swimming for four years.

While at SMU, she was an All-American in the 500m and 1650m freestyle in her freshman year and sophomore years, and in the 1650m during her junior and senior years. Suzanne she was a captain of the team during her senior year.

Suzanne won gold medals in the 1500m and 1800m freestyle at the World University Games in Sicily, where she represented the USA.

She was ranked as high as 4th in the world in the 1500m freestyle.

Last summer she medaled in the U.S Masters National Championships for short course.

She coached with the Winston-Salem YMCA, and she now coaches swimming in Birmingham, AL.
