Ravens Take Girls' Lacrosse (5/15)
The FCDS girls’ lacrosse team met a strong Ravenscroft team for the first match in the NCISAA state tournament on Tuesday afternoon. The Furies came out strong with the first four shots on goal and were able to stay with the top seeded Ravens during the first half of play. Unfortunately, the Furies were unable to keep up with their highly talented opponent and fell to the Ravens by a final score of 20-4. The Furies finished out their season with their first birth in a state tournament for girls lacrosse! Scoring for FCDS were Carrie Logie (2 goals), Kim Perkins (2 goals), Abbye LeCompte (1 assist), and Alex Nictakis (1 assist). Sarah Logie had an impressive nine saves for the match.
Durham Academy Over Girls' Lacrosse (5/7)
The varsity girls’ lacrosse team faced a strong and very talented Durham Academy squad on Monday afternoon. Durham Academy scored early in the first half, on a quick move to the goal within the first minute of play. The Furies were able to come back with a score of their own from Ruth Jackson. Unfortunately, Durham Academy was able to take control of the game after that goal and they held the FCDS to just five goals during the match, compared to seventeen of their own. Scoring for the Furies were Kim Perkins (four goals), Ruth Jackson (one goal), and Alex Nictakis (one assist). Sarah Logie had five saves in goal for the game.
Girls' Lacrosse Takes Carolina Day (5/2)
The FCDS girls’ lacrosse team celebrated senior day with a thrilling win over Carolina Day School on Wednesday afternoon. Carolina Day came out strong on the first draw and scored early. However, the Furies were able to collect themselves and respond with goals of their own. With a close score going into the second half, the Furies picked up the intensity and ran away with the game. The team’s two seniors, Kim Perkins and Morgan Barnhardt, led the team to victory, each scoring during the match. The defense held Carolina Day to just four goals in the second half! It was a hot and humid afternoon but a great day for lacrosse. Scoring for FCDS: Kim Perkins (5 goals, 4 assists), Alex Nictakis (4 goals, 1 assist), Kate Singletary (4 goals), Abbye LeCompte (3 goals, 3 assists), Madison Scronce (2 goals), and Morgan Barnhardt (1 goal) Saves: Sarah Logie 8.
Girls' Lacrosse Over GDS (4/27)
The FCDS girls’ lacrosse team traveled to Greensboro Day on Friday afternoon, for a rematch of their earlier season win over the Bengals. GDS started with an early goal within the first minutes of the match, but the Furies were able to answer within two minutes. FCDS went into halftime with a good lead, however were unable to hold off GDS as they started the half with a couple quick points. It was an intense game with back and forth scores throughout, the largest lead for the game being three goals. As the match neared its end, the Furies were able to keep a one point lead heading into the final minute of play. Solid defense held off a last minute attempt by the Bengals to tie the score and FCDS came away with another win over GDS. The final score was FCDS 9 and GDS 8. Scoring for FCDS were Kate Singletary (5 goals, 1 assist), Kim Perkins (2 goals, 1 assist), Carrie Logie (2 goals, 2 assists), Abbye LeCompte (1 assist), Madison Scronce (1 assist), and Liza Kate Wall (1 assist).
Lake Norman Over Girls' Lacrosse (4/24)
The FCDS girls’ lacrosse team met Lake Norman Charter School on Tuesday for their second game this season. The first half score was close, with both teams trading back and forth goals. A strong Fury defense, led by goalie Sarah Logie, kept the team within two at halftime. As the second half started, the intensity level went up and the Furies were unable to keep the game as close. The score at the end of the game did not reflect the level of play or the great ball movement or defense that the girls displayed on the field. Logie had a brilliant performance in goal with a personal record 18 saves! The final score for Tuesday’s match was Lake Norman 19, FCDS 11. Girls' Lacrosse Takes Asheville School (4/17)
The FCDS girls’ lacrosse team made the long trip to Asheville on Tuesday afternoon to face Asheville School. What looked to be a cold and rainy match, turned out to be a perfect day for lacrosse. Luckily the rain stayed away long enough for the Furies to capture a much deserved win. The girls came out strong in the beginning and continued to hold control throughout the match. Sarah Logie recorded 15 saves on the day, a new record for her in the 2012 season. Scoring for the Furies were Kim Perkins (8 goals, 1 assist), Abbye LeCompte (4 goals, 1 assist), Carrie Logie (3 goals, 3 assists), and Kate Singletary (2 goals, 2 assists).
Charlotte Latin Over VG Lacrosse (4/13)
Friday evening the Fury girls’ lacrosse team faced a strong and talented Charlotte Latin squad. The Furies played with positive attitudes and a determination that did not fade. Charlotte Latin was able to come away with a 19-5 win. The Fury defense put forth a tremendous effort, stopping multiple scoring attempts by the opposition. Sarah Logie had an impressive game with 10 saves! Scoring for FCDS were Carrie Logie (3 goals, 2 assists), Alex Nictakis (1 goal), and Abbye LeCompte (1 goal). Forsyth will be back in action next Tuesday when they play Asheville School in Asheville.
Reagan Takes VG Lacrosse (4/11)
The varsity girls’ lacrosse team met Reagan High for a chilly evening match Wednesday. In their first match back from spring break, the girls were able to quickly get into the swing of things with a couple of early goals from Carrie Logie. Sarah Logie supported a strong defensive effort with nine saves for the day. Unfortunately, in the end Reagan was a bit too much for the Furies to handle. Scoring for the Furies: Carrie Logie (6 goals), Alex Nictakis (2 goals, 2 assists), Abbye LeCompte (1 goal), Ruth Jackson (1 goal), Madison Scronce (1 assist), and Kristen McHale (1 assist).
St. Mary's Over Girls' Lacrosse (3/29)
The FCDS girls’ varsity lacrosse team played its third game of the week yesterday afternoon against a strong and talented St. Mary’s squad. The Furies fought hard for a three-game winning streak, but were unfortunately unable to clinch a win. Scoring for the Furies yesterday were Ruth Jackson (2 goals), Abbye LeCompte (1 goal, 1 assist), Madison Scronce (1 goal, 1 assist), and Carrie Logie (1 goal). Sarah Logie had 10 saves while defending the Fury net. The lacrosse team will be back in action on April 11th at 6:00 p.m. against Reagan.
Fury Girls' Lacrosse Over GDS (3/27)
On Tuesday afternoon, the Fury varsity girls’ lacrosse team faced a determined and strong Greensboro Day squad. The score remained close during the first half of play; however, the Furies were able to pull away in the second half thanks to solid defensive play and multiple goals scored by several of the Fury players. The FCDS goal scorers for the day were Kim Perkins (8 goals, 2 assists), Carrie Logie (8 goals, 4 assists), Abbye LeCompte (4 goals), Madison Scronce (2 goals), and Alex Nictakis (1 goal). On the defensive end, Sarah Logie came through with nine saves! The final score was FCDS 23 - GDS 13! It was a great day to be out on the field and the team has continued to show improvement with each game.
Bishop McGuinness Over Fury Girls' Lacrosse (3/21)
The Fury varsity girls’ lacrosse team played an exciting and impressive match Wednesday afternoon, against Bishop McGuinness. The scored remained close throughout the match and the Furies fought hard until the final whistle. Unfortunately, Bishop McGuinness was able to come out on top in the end. FCDS had a balanced scoring attack, with goals scored by five different players. The defense played an impressive game as well, preventing the opposing team from taking any easy shots. Sarah Logie had six great saves for the day. Scoring for the Furies were Kim Perkins (5 goals, 2 assists), Abbye LeCompte (4 goals), Carrie Logie (3 goals, 6 assists), Ruth Jackson (2 goals), and Kate Singletary (2 goals, 1 assist).
Providence Takes Fury Girls' Lacrosse (3/6)
The FCDS girls’ lacrosse team faced a strong and talented Providence Day squad on Tuesday afternoon. Providence Day went up early with a couple of quick goals, however, the Furies kept their composure and fought back with strong defense, supported by goalkeeper Sarah Logie. The Furies were able to net seven goals in the match, but they were unfortunately not enough to seal a victory. Scoring for the Furies in yesterday’s game were Carrie Logie with five goals, Kim Perkins with one goal, and Abbye LeCompte with one goal.
