Softball Team Drops Regular Season Finale to Charlotte Latin (5/5)
The FCDS varsity softball team ended its regular season on Wednesday with a 7-0 loss at Charlotte Latin. The offense mustered just two hits for the game, one from Addison Sutton in the first inning and one from Julianne Blaylock in the sixth inning. Blaylock's hit went for extra bases as she connected for a double. Fury hurler Chelsea Beard led the defense with four strikeouts and one putout. Liza Kate Wall and Carrie Logie each made some amazing catches in outfield. Sutton also made a great catch behind the plate in the sixth inning. Untimely errors in the field cost the Furies some runs however as they fell to the Hawks.
Softball Team Drops Senior Night Game to Wesleyan (5/4)
The FCDS varsity softball team lost a tough game to PACIS foe Wesleyan on Tuesday by a final score of 6-0. Wesleyan’s victory over FCDS did not dampen the celebration of the Furies' Senior Night however. Fury pitcher Chelsea Beard led the defense with four strikeouts and two putouts. Annie Dillon and Jenny Temas were amazing in the infield, registering six putouts between them. Liza Kate Wall and Elizabeth Edwards each made beautiful catches in the outfield in the fourth inning. On offense, the Furies had several hits but could never string enough of them together to get on the scoreboard. Beard and Dillon were each 2-3 and Addison Sutton was 2-4 for the game. The team wished good luck to their three Seniors: pitcher Beard, catcher Sutton and team manager Caroline Miller as they head off for college next year.
FCDS Softball Falls To Calvary (5/1)
The varsity softball team lost 7-3 to Calvary on Saturday. The Fury offense started the game strong with two hits and a walk in the first inning. Led in that first inning by the bats of Carrie Logie Chelsea Beard, Kaitlyn Hadfield, and Addison Sutton, the Furies were able to put two early runs on the board. The bats were hot early but did not stay that way as Forsyth would muster just one more score in the remaining six innings, with Hatfield scoring that lone run. The Fury defense was led by pitcher Beard who notched four strikeouts and two putouts. Annie Dillon made several amazing plays at third base and recorded four putouts. The Fury girls hope to come up with a victory in their next game on Tuesday, when they play Wesleyan Christian at home and celebrate their "Senior Night."
Furies Softball Team Tops Cary Academy (4/28)
The FCDS varsity softball team earned an 11-4 victory over Cary Academy on Wednesday. Fury ace Chelsea Beard led the way defensively, recording six strikeouts and two putouts in the game. Annie Dillon was also great on the defensive side for the Furies making four putouts while Jenny Temas made her presence known with a great diving catch in the in field. The Fury offense was also on as Carrie Logie led the way by hitting a home run in the second inning. Logie also scored three runs in the game. Addison Sutton added a couple of great hits and scored two of the Fury runs. Kaitlyn Hadfield had two hits and score two runs as well and Beard also pitched in on the offensive side with some great hits, a run scored, and two runs batted in. The Furies will play Calvary at home on Saturday afternoon. The first pitch in that game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
Furies Softball Team Takes Greensboro Day (4/23)
The FCDS varsity softball team won its game against PACIS foe Greensboro Day School on Friday by an impressive 15-0 score in just three innings. The victory gave the Furies a two game season sweep over the Bengals. The girls played well on the defensive side with pitcher Chelsea Beard striking out six of the nine batters she faced in the game. Annie Dillon, Morgan Boyer, and Beard each retired one of the other three Greensboro batters with beautiful catches in the field. The offensive bats were on fire too with Kaitlyn Hatfield hitting a triple and knocking in four runs. Addison Sutton and Beard were each 3-3 and also registered runs batted in for the team. The Furies next game is agains Cary Academy on Wednesday.
Wesleyan Christian Over Furies Softball (4/20)
The FCDS varsity softball team suffered a 10-5 loss to PACIS Wesleyan on Tuesday. Fury pitcher Chelsea Beard led the defense with seven strikeouts and two putouts. The girls started to rally in the sixth inning when they scored four runs but it wasn’t enough to hold off Wesleyan. Annie Dillon and Jenny Temas were each 2-3 at plate to lead the Fury offense. The Furies will play PACIS foe Greensboro Day on Friday.
Mount Tabor Takes Furies Softball (4/14)
FCDS Varsity Softball team had a tight game against Mount Tabor for 5-3 lost. The defense held them in the first three innings and had some untimely errors in the fifth inning. Chelsea Beard had 10 strikeouts. Carrie Logie had two great hits; Addison Sutton had two great hits to the outfield and a nice bunt. Chelsea Beard had two great hits and two RBI’S in the game. Annie Dillon had a nice bunt and a great hit to the outfield. Kaylyn Surratt had a great hit to right field. The team plays a conference game against Wesleyan on Tuesday. Go Furies.
East Forsyth Over Furies Softball (4/12)
The FCDS varsity softball team suffered a tough 15-0 loss to East Forsyth in the City/County games on Monday in four innings. The Fury defense had some untimely errors. Chelsea Beard had three strikeouts. The Fury bats were cold. Chelsea Beard and Jenny Temas each had two hits but East Forsyth’s defense was too much for the Furies.
They play Mount Tabor on Wednesday.
Furies Softball Shuts Down Atkins (4/8)
The Fury varsity softball team shut down Atkins 15-0 in a well-played game on Thursday in three innings. Leading the team defensively were pitcher Chelsea Beard with six strikeouts. The Fury bats were sizzling. Annie Dillon had a homerun and a triple to go 3-3 with 2 RBI’s. Chelsea Beard had a double and four RBI’s for the team to go 3-3. Addison Sutton also had a double and was 3-3. After winning the play-in game yesterday the Furies are looking forward to doing well in the upcoming City/County Championships games starting Monday.
Softball Drops Game to Durham Academy (4/7)
The FCDS varsity softball team suffered an 11-7 loss to Durham Academy on Wednesday. A five-run Fury lead evaporated in the fourth inning when the Cavalier bats heated up. Several defensive errors by the Furies also contributed to Durham Academy’s nine-run fourth. On the bright side defensively, Furies Annie Dillon and Kaitlyn Hatfield each turned double plays and Jenny Temas and Dillon both made beautiful diving catches in center field. FCDS pitcher Chelsea Beard also had a solid outing, striking out six of the Cavaliers. Morgan Boyer showcased her base running skills with a couple of stolen bases. Temas (3-4) and Morgan Boyer (2-4) were the Fury hitting leaders. The Furies hope to use improved hitting and a tighter defense in their next game on Thursday against Atkins. That game, which will start at 5:00 p.m. on Sutton Field, will be the first game the Furies will play in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County softball tournament.
Furies Softball Team Tops Greensboro Day (3/24)
The FCDS varsity softball team was triumphant over Greensboro Day School in their first PACIS conference game on Tuesday evening. The Fury bats were hot against Greensboro Day. Carrie Logie led off the game for Forsyth by hitting a homerun and senior teammate Hanna Scott laid down a beautiful bunt in that same first inning for her first RBI of the season. Kaitlyn Hadfield had a nice hit to shortstop and also scored two runs in the game and Jenny Temas, Chelsea Beard, and Addison Sutton were each 3-4 at the plate. The final score was 20-3 in a game shortened to just three innings by the "mercy rule." FCDS pitcher Beard struck out four batters before being relieved by teammate Sutton who pitched most of the second and the third innings. Annie Dillon did a great job as the Fury catcher during the last two innings of the game.
Furies Softball Falls To High Point Christian (3/23)
The FCDS varsity softball team lost to High Point Christian by a final score of 7-3 on Tuesday. Eighth-grader Morgan Boyer had a beautiful hit to right field to get the first two RBI’s of her varsity softball career. Other Fury bats were also hot as Addison Sutton and Jenny Temas each had great hits too. Forsyth pitcher Chelsea Beard led the defense with five strikeouts and Annie Dillon had three great catches in center field. Temas was also strong on the defensive side, making a great catch in left field. The Furies played under the lights at Sutton Softball Stadium and the crowd was spectacular. The Furies will be on the road today as they take on PACIS rival Greensboro Day.
Rabun Gap Over Furies Softball (3/19)
The FCDS varsity softball suffered a loss to Rabun Gap 6-3 on Friday. The Fury bats were cold as Jenny Temas, Chelsea Beard and Addison Sutton scored the only runs of the night. Those three each finished 1-3 for the evening. The Fury defense was led by pitcher Chelsea Beard who recorded eight strike outs. Annie Dillon and Kaylyn Surratt each made beautiful catches in the outfield as well. The Forsyth defense also got three outs on attempted Rabun Gap stolen bases. The team will be ready to battle when they come up against High Point Christian on Tuesday at the Sutton Softball Field.
Fury Softball Team Tops Statesville Christian (3/16)
The FCDS varsity softball team started four freshman and one eighth grader and earned a 14-5 victory over Statesville Christian on Tuesday. The Fury bats started out hot as Addison Sutton’s home run in the first inning brought in Carrie Logie to score the game’s first two runs. Leading Fury hitters included Chelsea Beard who went 4-5, Logie 3-5, Sutton 3-5, and Annie Dillon 3-5. Rookie batters Kaylyn Surratt and Morgan Boyer both also went 2 for 4. The Fury defense was bolstered by Beard’s performance on the mound where he FCDS starter struck out nine batters and held Statesville Christian to just three runs through six innings. Fury senior Sutton made her debut on the mound in the seventh inning in relief of Beard and struck out three Statesville batters as Dillon moved behind the plate to call the pitches. Furies Softball Beats Charlotte Country Day (3/9)
The varsity softball team earned a 6-2 victory over Charlotte Country Day on Tuesday. The Fury offense started in the first inning when Carrie Logie reached base on a bunt single and scored later in the inning. The other Fury offense was provided by Addison Sutton, Jenny Temas, Liza Kate Wall, and Chelsea Beard who each had hits in the game. The Knights came back in the bottom of the first inning to score their only two runs, capitalizing on some untimely FCDS fielding errors. Beard’s performance on the mound shut down the Knight’s offense from that point on however as she recorded eight strikeouts for the game. Sutton did an excellent job as catcher and was a key contributor to the success of the Furies. The entire Fury squad looked much improved and is looking forward to their next contest.
Charlotte Christian Tops Fury Softball Team (3/4)
In the season opener for the FCDS varsity softball team the Furies were dealt a tough loss by Charlotte Christian. The final score of the game was 10-3. The Fury offense ignited when Addison Sutton and Annie Dillon got on base and were driven home by Chelsea Beard’s double in the third inning however the only other FCDS run was scored by Jenny Temas. Fury hurler Chelsea Beard had six strikeouts to lead the defense. The young Fury team showed a lot of potential and the remainder of the season looks bright.
