State Swimming (2/18)
The Varsity Swim Team ended the year off strong in the State Meet this past Monday. Twenty of our swimmers swam at states and the following swimmers made it back to finals that evening: Taylor Weddle, Elizabeth Symons, Frazier Novak, Artie Shaw, Mary Novak, Anne Symons, Claire Argenta, and Rachel Baker.
Their hard work has definitely paid off this year. Having 20 swimmers go to the state meet is a huge number that not many teams can say they have. I am very proud of the whole team and what they have accomplished this year. If you see any of the swimmers in the hallway be sure to Congratulate them on a season well done!

Conference Swim Meet (2/12)
Last night was the conference meet for the FCD Swim Teams! The girls came out with a fantastic second place and the guys had a wonderful third place. Both teams had several of their best swims ever. Elizabeth Symons, Artie Shaw, and Claire Argenta were named All-Conference swimmers for winning their events. Elizabeth Symons won the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:15.41. Artie Shaw won the 50 Free and 100 Free with times of 23.24 and 52.62. Artie Shaw not only won the 50 Freestyle but he also set a new conference record. Claire Argenta also came in first in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 5:51.69.
There were several second place finishes as well with Elizabeth Symons in the 200IM, Anne Symons in the 50 Free, Claire Argenta in the 100 Butterfly, the Girls 200 Freestyle Relay with a team of Anne Symons, Sydney Shaw, Rachel Baker, and Elizabeth Symons, the Boy’s 200 Freestyle Relay with Taylor Weddle, Peter Bambalis, Frazier Novak, and Artie Shaw as well as the Girls 400 Freestyle Relay with Sara Argenta, Claire Argenta, Mary Novak, and Rachel Baker.
Our third place finishers were the Girls 200 Medley Relay with Mary Novak, Elizabeth Symons, Claire Argenta, and Anne Symons, the Boy’s 200 Medley Relay with Ryan Budd, Daniel Schreiner, Peter Bamablis, and Dustin Brannam, Sydney Shaw in 50 Free, Taylor Weddle in 100 Butterfly, and the Boys 400 Free Relay with a team of Taylor Weddle, Daniel Schreiner, Frazier Novak, and Artie Shaw.
This was by far one of the toughest and best meets these kids have participated in. With Wesleyan and Greensboro Day having at least double the number of swimmers as FCDS the team definitely showed everyone that they could handle anything that came their way. The teams’ next meet is the State Meet this Monday February 18, 2008.
Forsyth Country Day Swimming
@ St. Mary’s (1/30)
The FCDS varsity swim teams traveled to St. Mary’s on Wednesday night to swim St. Mary’s and APA. Both of the teams came out with a great second place finish. With the girls finishing with six second place and five third place finishes while the guys came out with four first place, five second place, and one third place finishes. Going into the meet the swimmers knew this was going to be one of the toughest meets so far. With FCDS missing four of our top swimmers and St. Mary’s and ADA both haveing several top swimmers in the state.. The FCDS boys and girls did a great job staying with them. We have one more meet in the regular season next Friday February 8 in Huntersville.

Furies Swimming Keeps up the Heat! (1/24)
The FCDS girls' and boys' swimming are still going strong. In the meet last night the girls came in first against Calvary, Forsyth Home Educators, Salem Academy, and Oak Ridge Military Academy and the boys in second beating Forsyth Home Educators and Oak Ridge Military Academy and falling to Calvary. This team just keeps surprising me every meet! They just keep getting faster and faster I can’t wait to see how the season ends! Our next meet is Wednesday January 30, 2008 at St. Mary’s!

FCDS Swimming at Salem Academy (1/10)

Have you seen the swim team in action yet? It’s about time if you haven’t! The FCDS girls and boy’s swimming is blowing everyone out of the water. In last nights meet they came out of no where.
The girl’s team received a first place finish against Calvary, Home School Educators, and Salem Academy! The guy’s team received second place over all losing to Calvary and beating the Home School Educators. Don't let that second place confuse you our seven guys swam their hearts out. They might have gotten second overall but they won every single event they swam except for one!
The women’s team knew what they wanted and took it from the start. The women’s Medley Relay (Rachel Baker, Elizabeth Symons, Claire Argenta, and Mary Novak) took a close first place with a time of 2:04.29 while Calvary was right behind them with a time of 2:04.64. Mary Novak kept the team moving with a first place finish in the 200 Free. Elena Schreiner and Sarah Martin were neck and neck till the end and finished with a 4th and 5th place. The 200 IM was another tight race with Elizabeth Symons fighting for first place. Unfortunately this race didn’t turn out the way we wanted but it was a fantastic swim. Elizabeth took second place losing by 0.04seconds. In that same race Rachel Baker had her own competition against a Forsyth Home School swimmer. They were close all the way to the end but Rachel managed to pull away and take 3rd place. The 50 Free was another fantastic race to watch there were 5 swimmers that all finished within 1 second. Three of those five swimmers were from FCDS Anne Symons, Claire Argenta, and Katie Ralston followed by Sarah Martin and Meredith Spaid. Elizabeth Symons was determined not to let anything get in her way of winning the 100 Fly. Elizabeth came in first with Rachel Baker right behind her in second. In the 100 yard free Sydney Shaw came in third followed by Sara Argenta, Elena Schreiner, and Sofia Pitovski. Next was the 100 Backstroke with Rachel Baker finishing 3rd, Claire Argenta in 4th and Katie Ralston ending in 7th place. Anne Symons then came up to the blocks ready to swim her 100 Breast and finished with a first place while Sydney Shaw was neck and neck fighting with a Calvary swimmer for 4th and 5th place. For the last race of the night the women’s team wanted to show everyone what FCDS really is all about. In the 400 Free Relay a team of Elizabeth Symons, Claire Argenta, Katie Ralston, and Mary Novak took first place with 11 seconds ahead of 2nd place.
Our Guys team had the best night of the whole season last night. Their goal going into the meet was domination and they sure kept that fire burning! They started out in the Medley Relay (Taylor Weddle, Peter Bambalis, Artie Shaw, and Frazier Novak) with a first place finish with 7.6 seconds over the second place team. The whole team kept it going with first place finishes with Frazier Novak in 200 Free, Daniel Schreiner in 200 IM, Artie Shaw in 50 Free, Taylor Weddle in 100 Fly, Frazier Novak in 100 Free, Artie Shaw, Frazier Novak, Daniel Schreiner, and Taylor Weddle in the 200 Free Relay, Taylor Weddle in 100 Back, and Artie Shaw in 100 Breast. WOW that's an unbelievable amount of first places. There were several great swims last night outside of those first place finishes. In the 50 Free we had Peter Bambalis finish in 3rd place followed by Ryan Budd and Dustin Brannam in 10th and 11th. In the 100 Free we had Daniel Schreiner in 3rd place and Dustin Brannam in 9th. In the 100 Back Ryan Budd finished with a nice 4th place. In a close 100 Breast Peter Bambalis got third place just 0.32 seconds behind second. Our guys 400 Free Relay (Daniel Schreiner, Ryan Budd, Dustin Brannam, and Peter Bambalis) came in 3rd place with a time of 4:21.15.
Overall I saw a huge improvement from all of the swimmers on both teams. The seniors really stepped it up with Captain Elizabeth Symons bringing both of her relays to a first place finish and wining one of the two of her events. While Captain Taylor Weddle and Frazier Novak both won all four of their events!

Forsyth Country Day Swimming (12/14)
Swim Team on FIRE!
The boys and girls swim team hosted their first meet of the season this past Friday Dec 14 at Wake Forest University. Thirty out of the thirty-two individual events swum by the Furies were personal records and twenty-two of the thirty-two were better than the level used to determine state tournament qualifications! Considering the pool at Wake Forest did not have starting blocks the team went into the meet thinking that their time would go up a bit however they decided to fight those odds and swim the best they could swim!
The meet started out with a bang when the girls 200 Medley Relay made up of Rachel Baker, Anne Symons, Mary Novak, and Sydney Shaw took second place with a time of 2:05.24. The boys team then took third place with a time of 1:55.54 with the team of Taylor Weddle, Peter Bamablis, Artie Shaw, and Frazier Novak. Some of the top individual finishers were Artie Shaw with two first-place finishes in the 200IM and the 100Free. Taylor Weddle with a first place in the 100 Back and a second place in the 100 Fly. Mary Novak received second place in the 200 IM and third place in the 100 Fly. Rachel Baker came out of the 100 Back with a third place finish. In the 100 Breast Anne Symons came in second place and Daniel Schreiner received third. Frazier Novak swam the 100 Free and finished in third place. To end the night the boys 400 Free Relay team of Frazier Novak, Daniel Schreiner, Artie Shaw, and Taylor Weddle came in second place.

Forsyth Country Day Swimming (11/16)
On Friday night 11/16 FCDS swimming had their first meet of the season. Reagan and Reynolds High were definitely bringing their fastest swimmers to their meet and we were not far behind. In the end Reynolds won and Reagan came in second followed by FCDS. Our next meet is Dec 5.
