Furies Tennis Advances to State Semi-finals (5/14)

The boys’ tennis team opened up state tournament action by pulling out an exciting 5-4 victory over Charlotte Latin Wednesday. The tone of the match was set early as two of the three doubles matches went to three sets. FCDS got on the board first with a straight set win from the team of Rocky Tritico and Stanley Forester at number three doubles. Stephen Pond and Will Sloan followed them with a three set victory at number two doubles as did Michael Chang and Harrison Brooks at number one doubles. Up 3-0 heading into singles, Rocky Tritico quickly added to the lead with a straight set win at number four singles. With a 4-0 lead in hand FCDS needed just one more win to clinch the victory however Charlotte Latin rallied to win the next four singles matches tying the score at 4-4. With the fate of the Furies in his hands, Harrison Brooks came through in a huge way as he battled muscle cramps all afternoon to win the deciding match 6-4 in the third set. The Furies will now head to Durham on Friday to take on #1 seed Cary Academy in the NCISAA 3A state semi-finals.


Durham Academy Over Furies Tennis (5/9)

In their last regular season match the boys’ tennis team lost a close one at Durham Academy Friday evening by a final score of 5-4. The Furies got off to a good start by taking two of the three doubles matches to gain a 2-1 lead heading into singles play. Stephen Pond and Stanley Forester picked up the only two singles points for the Furies at numbers four and six respectively but it wasn't enough as Durham rallied to win the other four individual matches. The Furies finish the regular season with a 17-4 record and have earned a number four seed at the upcoming NCISAA 3A state tournament. FCDS will host their first round against Charlotte Latin this Wednesday so come out and support the team!


Furies Tennis Zips Wesleyan (5/5)

The boys’ tennis team won 9-0 Monday night against Wesleyan to improve their record to 17-3 on the season. On senior night, all three seniors helped to get the victory for the Furies. In doubles the all senior team of Doug Wiggins and Sebi Prandoni lead the way getting the Furies on the board first with an 8-1 victory at number three. Will Sloan and Stephen Pond followed with an 8-2 win at number two. Senior Michael Chang and partner Harrison Brooks earned the final doubles point with an 8-3 victory at number one. In singles action the Furies continued to roll getting quick points from Rocky Tritico at number three and Harrison Brooks at number two. Stephen Pond played well to earn a 6-0, 6-2 at number four and Michael Chang battled through a sore shoulder to earn a 7-5, 6-1 victory at number one. Bradley Schneider and Stanley Forester put the finishing touches on the team victory by winning both of their matches in straight sets as well. The Furies will head to Durham Academy on Friday for their final regular season match starting at 4:30 p.m.


Furies Tennis Takes Two (4/29)

The boys’ tennis team won their second match in as many days against Greensboro Day School on Tuesday by a score of 7-2. They defeated Statesville Christian on Monday by the same score. After defeating GDS 9-0 in their last head-to-head meeting, the Furies hoped to have the same success on Tuesday.  Their doubles play set the tone for the day as they swept all three matches. Harrison Brooks didn't waste any time at number two singles as he rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 straight set victory. Will Sloan followed shortly winning his match 6-2, 6-1 at number three to clinch the necessary fifth point, clinching the team victory. Rocky Tritico and Michael Chang had tougher matches at number four and number one singles respectively but both Furies came out victorious. Greensboro's two points came from the last two matches of the day as Stephen Pond and Bradley Schneider fought hard at numbers five and six but came up just a little short. The boys’ tennis team is now 13-3 on the season and will be back in action on Thursday when they take on North Raleigh Christian Academy at home starting at 4:30 p.m.    


Furies Tennis Takes CCD (4/18)

The boys’ tennis team completed a 4-2 comeback to defeat defending state champions Charlotte Country Day School 5-4 on Friday afternoon in Charlotte. The Furies set the tone for the day with a lot of energy on all three doubles courts. At number one doubles the team of Michael Chang and Harrison Brooks got the Furies on the board first with a solid 8-4 victory over the Menzies brother duo from CCD. At number three the team of Rocky Tritico and Stanley Forester added to the lead with an 8-6 victory of their own. Stephen Pond and Will Sloan lost a tightly contested battle at number two doubles by a score of 9-7. Down but not out, the defending champs fought back to win the first three singles matches to regain the lead 4-2. With their backs against the wall and needing to win all three of the remaining singles matches to win the match, the Furies showed what they were made of. Brooks started the charge back for FCDS with a 6-0, 7-6 win at number two. Stephen Pond leveled the match at 4-4 with a 6-2, 6-4 win at number five. With the score tied the stage was set for Chang to complete the comeback for the Furies at number one singles. After winning the first set 6-2 in convincing fashion, CCD's number one player fought back to take the second set in a tiebreak which meant it would all come down to a ten point super tiebreaker for both teams. CCD's number one player didn't waste any time as he raced out to a 5-1 lead. It was then that Chang fought back with some of his best tennis of the day, as he proceeded to win the next eight straight points to take a 9-5 lead. CCD got it back to 9-7 but as a forehand sailed long, Chang had finished the win for the Furies in dramatic fashion. The boys’ tennis team will be back action on Monday when they travel to Durham Academy for a match starting at 4 p.m..


Furies Tennis Over Mt. Airy (4/16)

The Furies defeated Mt. Airy on Wednesday evening 9-0 to bring their record to 9-3 on the season. FCDS got on the board quickly as the number two team of Michael Chang and Will Sloan defeated their opponents 8-0 and the number three team of Rocky Tritico and Stanley Forester won their match by the same score. At number one doubles the team of Stephen Pond and Harrison Brooks defeated their opponents 8-2. In singles the Furies continued to play strong tennis as Rocky Tritico was the first to add to the lead by winning 6-0, 6-1 at number five. Harrison Brooks followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win at number two. Stanley Forester was a 6-0, 6-3 winner at number six. Stephen Pond played well earning a 6-1, 6-1 win at number four singles and Michael Chang had some strong competition at number one but played well to earn a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Will Sloan earned the final point for the Furies with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at number three singles. The Furies will be back in action on Friday at Charlotte Country Day School at 4 p.m.


Furies Tennis Takes Greensboro Day (4/15)

The Furies were victorious Tuesday evening against Greensboro Day School. Facing GDS on their senior night, the Furies came ready to play and saw victories from everyone who played, gaining their second straight 9-0 victory. In doubles the #2 team of Michael Chang and Will Sloan got the Furies on the board first with an 8-1 win. Rocky Tritico and Stanley Forester were right behind them with an 8-3 victory at #3 and the #1 team of Harrison Brooks and Stephen Pond put the finishing touches on the doubles sweep with an 8-6 win of their own. FCDS continued to roll in singles as Michael Chang was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at the #1 spot. Harrison Brooks followed at #2 with a 6-2, 6-2 win. Stanley Forester won a tough match at #6 by a score of 6-1, 7-6 and Rocky Tritico was right behind him with a 6-4, 7-5 win at #5. Will Sloan fought through a tight first set and rolled in the second with a 7-6, 6-2 victory and Stephen Pond was leading his opponent 7-6, 1-1 when his opponent retired in the second set. The Furies are now 8-3 on the season and will be back in action when they take on Mt. Airy on Wednesday at 4 p.m.


Furies Tennis Takes Covenant (4/12)

On Saturday the Furies boys' tennis team defeated Covenant Day School by a score of 9-0. Missing two players, the remaining eight players on the roster all helped to contribute to the victory. In doubles the team of Rocky Tritico and Bradley Schneider were the first to put the Furies on the board, winning 8-0 at the number three spot. Stanley Forester and Stephen Pond won at number two doubles, as did Michael Chang and Harrison Brooks at number one, both by a score of 8-2. In singles the Furies didn't waste any time adding to their lead. Chang was a winner at number one by a score of 6-0, 6-0, and Brooks was right behind by a similar 6-0, 6-1 score. Bradley Schneider earned a win at the number three spot defeating his opponent 6-0, 6-1. Stanley Forester was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at number four and Peter Sadosky at number five won 6-3, 6-1. Sebi Prandoni put the finishing touches on the win by closing out his match 6-2, 6-3. The Furies now have a record of 7-3 on the season and will be back in action on Tuesday at Greensboro Day.


Furies Tennis over Cannon School (4/11)

The Furies defeated Cannon School by a score of 8-1 on Friday evening at the Smith Tennis Courts. In doubles, the Furies received wins from Michael Chang and Rocky Tritico at number two by a score of 8-4. At number one the team of Harrison Brooks and Stephen Pond defeated their opponents 8-6. At number three, the team of Stanley Forester and Bradley Schneider fought hard but came up a little short getting edged by a score of 8-3. In singles the Furies never looked back as they got wins from everyone in the singles line-up. Michael Chang got the Furies off to a quick start in singles winning 6-1,6-3 at number one. The rest of the Furies weren't far behind as Harrison Brooks won 6-2, 6-1 at number two followed by Rocky Tritico at number four by a score of 6-1, 6-3. Stanley Forester won at number six 7-5, 6-0 followed by Stephen Pond at number three 6-2, 6-2, and Bradley Schneider at number five 6-4, 6-4. The Furies will be back in action on Saturday for a double header starting with First Assembly at 10 a.m. followed by Covenant Day School at 4 p.m.


Furies Tennis Takes Statesville Christian (4/8)

The boys’ tennis team defeated Statesville Christian on Tuesday by a score of 7-2. Peter Sadosky was the first player to put the Furies on the board, defeating his opponent by a score of 6-1, 6-1. Harrison Brooks wasn't far behind, winning his match 6-0, 6-1. Statesville Christian fought back though as Bradley Schneider lost in a third set tiebreaker at number four singles, and Rocky Tritico came up a little short at number three. With the score tied at 2-2, Stanley Forester put the Furies back on top with a big 6-4, 6-2 win at number five singles. Michael Chang added to that lead by winning 6-1, 7-5 at the number one spot. Heading into doubles play with a 4-2 lead, the Furies only needed one more point to secure the victory and it came from the number three doubles team of Bradley Schneider and Doug Wiggins, by a score of 8-3. Michael Chang and Harrison Brooks were successful at number one doubles, with Chang defeating his younger brother and his partner by a score of 8-1. The number two team of Tritico and Forester finished off the win for the Furies by winning match 9-8. The Furies will be back in action on Friday when they take on The Cannon School at home starting at 5 p.m.


Furies Tennis Takes Ravenscroft (3/20)

The boys' tennis team pulled out a tough win against the previously undefeated Ravenscroft team Thursday night at the Smith Tennis Center. The Furies came out with a lot of energy in doubles and jumped out to early leads at #1 and #3 doubles. Harrison Brooks and Stephen Pond secured the first point for FCDS by winning 8-3 at #1. After losing a close match at #2 doubles, it came down to the #3 doubles team of Sebi Prandoni and Rocky Tritico to secure the lead for the Furies heading into singles. After being up early, Ravenscroft fought back but in the end it was Tritico and Prandoni who pulled out the win 9-7. In singles the Furies continued to get strong play from Michael Chang at number one and Harrison Brooks at number two. They won 6-2, 6-3 and 6-1, 6-3 respectively. Up 4-1, Forsyth needed one more match to secure the win and it came from Rocky Tritico at #5 in dramatic fashion by a score of 4-6, 6-4, 10-6. Stephen Pond followed up Tritico with a win of his own at #4, 7-6, 6-2 to put the final touches on the victory for the Furies. The boys' tennis team will be off over spring break but will be back in action at Durham Academy on April 1.


Furies Tennis over Mt. Tabor (3/18)

The Fury boys’ tennis team rolled to a 7-2 victory over Mt. Tabor Tuesday evening.  Playing singles first, FCDS jumped out to an early 2-0 lead behind an impressive debut from Stanley Forester with a 6-0, 6-1 win at #6. Harrison Brooks wasn't far behind notching a win by a score of 6-0, 6-2 at #2. Mt. Tabor put up a fight in the other four singles matches though as Rocky Tritico won 6-4, 6-2 at #4, Michael Chang was successful at #1 winning 6-1, 7-5, and Bradley Schneider won a hard fought match at #5 by a score of 6-4, 7-5.  Stephen Pond played hard but came up just short if a victory at #3 losing in a third set tiebreaker. With the match already clinched heading into doubles, the Furies continued to roll winning two of the three doubles matches. The boys will be back in action on Thursday at home against Ravenscroft starting at 4 p.m. 


Providence Day over Furies Tennis (3/11)

The Furies boys' tennis team battled hard Tuesday night against a strong Providence Day team but came up a little short in the end 6-3. Things got off to a good start in doubles when Michael Chang and Harrison Brooks won 8-3 at the number one doubles spot. Providence Day rallied to take the next two doubles matches and an early 2-1 edge going into the singles. Brooks continued to role in singles winning quickly at the number two spot while FCDS saw their only other victory come at number five singles where Rocky Tritico won in a tough straight set battle. The Furies will be back in action on Friday against Statesville Christian.


Furies Tennis at Florence Tennis Association Tournament (3/7-9)

The Furies traveled to Florence South Carolina this past weekend to kick off their spring tennis season in a 16 team compass draw tournament format. Playing by South Carolina high school tennis rules, FCDS paired their top five singles players and #2 doubles team up against the Summerville school in the first round. FCDS got early wins from senior Michael Chang at #1 and junior Harrison Brooks at #2. Sophomore Rocky Tritico picked up their final singles point at #5. Summerville rallied to win the next three matches to force the tie breaking doubles match. Playing number one doubles in the tie breaker for the Furies were Chang and Brooks who won in convincing fashion 8-1 in the pro set.
In the second round the Furies took on defending 4A state champions West Florence high school. This time it was the depth of the Furies team that kept them in it as Stephen Pond picked up a big singles win at #4, Rocky Tritico remained solid winning at #5, and the Furies won the crucial doubles point with the team of Bradley Schneider and Stanley Forester.

Chang and Brooks teamed up again as it came down to the tie breaking doubles match for the Furies and after leading through most of the pro set, West Florence rallied to take the match by a score of 8-6.

In their third match of the day the Furies matched up against Wilson High School where FCDS got victories from everyone including a convincing win from Will Sloan at #3 and senior doubles team of Sebi Prandoni and Doug Wiggins rallied after being down to win the final match of the day and securing the 6-0 sweep for the Furies.

In their final match of the weekend FCDS played Bishop England where things came down to the wire yet again. Chang and Brooks posted big wins at #1 and #2 respectively and it was the gutsy play of Will Sloan at #3 that got them the lead 3-2. Stephen Pond battled hard and came up short at #4 which would put Chang and Brooks up in their third tie breaker match of the tourney. On serve until 6-6  the Furies lost a crucial no add doubles point that would ultimately lead Bishop England to the victory.

The Furies wll be back in action this Tuesday against Providence Day School starting at 4 p.m.
