Varsity Tennis Team Drops Close Match with Cary Academy (4/28)
The varsity boys’ tennis team lost to Cary Academy on Wednesday by a final score of 7-2. In doubles play, Tom Hill and Tre’ Vaughn came back after being down early to grab an 8-6 win at number two. Cary proved too strong at spots one and three though and took a 2-1 edge heading into singles play. The visiting Chargers continued their strong play as they quickly picked up wins at numbers four and five singles. Tre’ Vaughn tried to turn things around for the Furies as he notched a straight set, 7-5, 6-2 win at number six. It wasn’t quite enough though as Cary eventually captured the remaining three singles matches at numbers one through three, all in close matches. The Furies will be back in action next Monday when they take on Wesleyan at home starting at 4:30 p.m. on Senior Night.

Furies Tennis Takes Greensboro Day (4/23)
The varsity tennis team defeated Greensboro Day School on Friday by a score of 6-3. In doubles action the number two team of Tom Hill and Tre’ Vaughn put the Furies on the board first with an 8-4 win. Josh Swindler and Bradley Schneider earned the team’s second point with an 8-3 win at number one doubles. Drew Ross and Sam Pranikoff played well but came up a little short at number three doubles. Heading into singles play, Tom Hill continued his strong play notching a straight-set win at number two singles. Josh Swindler followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win at number one. Tre Vaughn and Sam Pranikoff both lost close matches at numbers five and six singles respectively. It was then Drew Ross who clinched the fourth point as well as the team victory for the Furies with a 6-3, 6-3 win at number four. Bradley Schneider won the final point of the day with a hard fought three-set victory at number three. The Furies will be back in action next Tuesday when they take on North Raleigh at home starting at 4 p.m.

Furies Tennis Takes Wesleyan (4/20)
The boys’ varsity tennis team defeated conference rival Wesleyan Christian on Tuesday by a final score of 6-0 before getting rained out in all remaining matches. Playing singles first, Josh Swindler scored the first point for the Furies with a straight set win at number one. Tré Vaughn won the second team point in the same fashion at number six. Tom Hill, Peter Sadosky, Bradley Schneider, and Drew Ross won the final four singles points for FCDS to secure the team win and then, just as doubles play began, the rain forced both teams to abandon further play. The Furies will be back in action on Thursday when they head to Charlotte to take on Providence Day School starting at 4 p.m.

Furies Tennis at City/County Championships (4/12)
The boys’ varsity tennis team competed in the City/County Championships on Monday at Hanes Park. The tournament setup was one where each of the top six Fury players competed in a flighted singles tournament against fellow players at the same positions from the other county schools. Individual flight championships, as well as an overall team title, were at stake for the team with the overall best results in each of the six singles flights. In the fall, the FCDS girls’ varsity tennis team was able to capture the team title in their City/County Championships and the boys were not to be outdone by their counterparts. The boys’ team was able to achieve the same result by capturing three flight championships, one runner-up finish, and having their remaining two players finish as semi-finalists. Josh Swindler was a runner up at the number one flight losing a tough match to West Forsyth’s top player. The Furies had flight champions at the numbers two, three, and four spots as Bradley Schneider, Tom Hill, and Drew Ross all won their respective flights. FCDS other two player, Peter Sadosky and Tre’ Vaughn, fell in close matches in the semifinals of the number five and six flights respectively. Thanks to the performance of each player the Furies came away with the team title and they’ll use this momentum heading into their next match this Thursday at Durham Academy. That match will start at 4 p.m.
Furies Tennis Takes Cannon (4/9)
The boys varsity tennis team defeated the Cannon School on Friday by a final score of 7-2. In doubles action the Furies got wins from all three teams starting with Tom Hill and Tré Vaughn at number two, Josh Swindler and Bradley Schneider at number one, and Drew Ross and Peter Sadosky at number three. In singles play Tom Hill won in straight sets at number two, 6-1, 6-1. Sam Pranikoff clinched the win for the furies at number six singles with a 6-0, 3-6, 10-7 victory. Bradley Schneider won at number one singles 7-6, 6-2 and Tré Vaughn earned the final point for the Furies with a 7-6, 3-6, 10-7 victory at number five singles. The Furies will be back in action on Saturday when they take on Asheville School starting at 3:30 pm.

Furies Tennis Over Mt. Airy (4/7)
The Fury boys’ varsity tennis team defeated Mt. Airy on Wednesday by a score of 5-2. The Furies captured two of the three doubles matches to jump out to an early 2-1 lead. The team of Drew Ross and Peter Sadosky earned the first point for the Furies with an 8-3 win at number three doubles. At number one doubles Josh Swindler and Bradley Schneider then got an 8-4 win of their own to earn the team’s second point. In singles action, the Furies got wins from five of their six players starting with Peter Sadosky at number five, followed by Tom Hill at number three, Josh Swindler at number one, Bradley Schneider at number two, and Tre’ Vaughn at number six. The Furies will be back in action on Friday when they take on the Cannon School at home starting at 4 p.m.

Furies Tennis 1-Ups GDS (3/24)
The boys’ varsity tennis team pulled out a closely contested victory over conference rival Greensboro Day School on Wednesday by a final score of 5-4. The Furies got off to fast start by capturing two of the three doubles matches. At number one doubles it was Josh Swindler and Bradley Schneider earning an 8-3 win while at number two Tom Hill teamed up with Tre Vaughn to earn an 8-3 victory. Drew Ross and Matthew Faw came up a little short at the number three spot and the score heading into singles play stood at 2-1. In singles play Josh Swindler overpowered his opponent at number one to earn a 6-0, 6-0 win. Drew Ross fought hard but came up just short at number four singles. Tom Hill continued the momentum for the Furies notching a 6-3, 6-0 win at number three. Tre Vaughn played well but was out-steadied at the number five spot and Sam Pranikoff lost in a close three set battle. Bradley Schneider saved the match for FCDS however when he earned the team clinching victory at the number two spot, winning by a score of 6-4, 6-3. The Furies will be on spring break next week and will return to action on April 7.

Fury Tennis Takes High Point Christian (3/16)
The Fury boys’ varsity tennis team defeated High Point Christian by a final score of 8-1 Tuesday at the Smith Tennis Courts. The Furies got convincing wins from all of their top six players in singles action. In doubles play the Furies continued to play well as Nathan Lannie and David McBane won 8-1 at number three. After falling behind early in their match, Timmy Cooper and Grant Purcell came back to win 8-5 at number two doubles. Sam Pranikoff and Matthew Faw played well at number one doubles but came up a little short dropping their match by a final score of 9-7. The Furies will be back in action on Thursday when they take on Statesville Christian at home starting at 4 p.m.

CCD Over Furies Tennis (3/9)
The FCDS boys’ varsity tennis team lost to Charlotte Country Day on Tuesday by a score of 6-1. The Furies took an early 1-0 lead as the senior doubles team of Rocky Tritico and Tom Hill won 8-3 at number two doubles. The Bucs fought back quickly however as the team of Tre Vaughn and Peter Sadosky lost at number three doubles by a score of 8-1. The Furies’ number one team of Josh Swindler and Bradley Schneider fell next in a close 8-6 match. In singles action Charlotte Country Day continued to play well as they won singles matches three through six. At numbers one and two singles Josh Swindler and Bradley Schneider had to abandon their matches due to dwindling sunlight. The Furies will be back in action on Friday as they take on Ravenscroft at home starting at 4 p.m.
