Bradford Mortgage Fury Relays (4/26)

The FCDS Furies captured the inaugural Bradford Mortgage Fury Relays held at FCDS on Saturday, April 26. The Fury girls were led once again by both youth (freshmen Elizabeth Lang and Emmy Wood), and experience (senior captains Emily Branch and Lynne Hull). Lang led off the 4x800 Relay with an excellent 2:30.1 then ran fantastic anchor legs on both the Sprint Medley and the 4x400 to nip the anchor from Providence Day both times by less than half a second. Reagan H.S. won the 4x400 (4:15.1) and the 4x800 (10:10.4), but FCDS was second and third with their best times of the season in 4:24.4 and 10:24.4. Wood had the best marks in both the High Jump (4’ 10”) and Triple Jump (31’ 5”) and combined with teammates Sydney Shaw (4’ 4”) and Breannah Davis-Bloom (30’ 2”) to win the Field Event version of a “Relay” in both events. Wood also ran a personal best of 27.0 for the 200m in the Sprint Medley. Branch contributed to the cause with 63 second 400m legs in the Sprint Medley and the 4x400 and anchored the 4x800 to their second place finish. Hull had the best performance in the Pole Vault at 10’ 0” but unfortunately didn’t have a teammate clear a bar to place as a “Relay.” She led off the Sprint Medley with a 28.0, the 4x400 with a 65, and anchored the 4x100 Relay to its best time of the season in 53.1 and a second place finish. Reagan H.S. won the most Relay events with 5 victories, (4x800, Long jump, Shot Put, Discus, and 4x400), but FCDS scored in some events where the Raiders were absent, including a win in the co-ed Shuttle Hurdle Relay to balance out their scoring in the hotly contested meet. The final girls’ scores were FCDS 97, Providence Day 84, Charlotte Latin 78, Reagan 69, Trinity Episcopal 22, and O’Neal 16.

Bradford Church was the star for the Fury boys with the best marks in the High Jump (6’ 2”) and Long Jump (21’ 11”) leading to “Relay” victories in both. Bradford combined with Harper Wilson (5’ 4”) in the High Jump and Steve Rusterholz (19’ 10.75”) in the Long Jump for those wins. FCDS also garnered wins in the Triple Jump Relay, (Harper Wilson – 40’ 6” & Steve Rusterholz – 39’ 1.25”), and the Pole Vault Relay, (Peter Bambalis 11’ 0” and David Bohle 9’ 6”). Reagan H.S. got four victories from their boys with their throwing corps dominating the Discus as Reggie Scales (120’ 4”) and Joey Hojnacki (119’ 4) combined for the win, and Zach Jones (44’ 9”) and Hojnacki (41’ 3”) won the Shot Put. Scales won the 100m in 10.9 and Reagan also won the Distance Medley. The boys’ competition was very close as FCDS edged out NCISAA rival Providence Day 115 -114. Other team scores were Reagan 88, Charlotte Latin 44, O’Neal 33, and Trinity Episcopal 4.
