PACIS Track & Field Championship Meet (5/8)

The Furies girls' track team won their 8th straight PACIS Championship Meet dating back to 2003 when they won the NCISAA State Championship.  The outcome of the meet was never in question as we racked up 104 points to Wesleyan’s 39 and Greensboro Day’s 35.  Junior Chrissy Reinemund earned victories in the 100m (13.1), 200m (26.7), and anchored both sprint relays to wins and was selected as the “Outstanding Performer of the Meet” for the girls.  Teaming-up with Chrissy on those relays were Emmy Wood, McCabe Galloway, and Diana Neben in the 4x100, and Wood, Clara Reinartz, and Neben in the 4x200.  The Furies won a total of 13 out of the 18 events including Elena Schreiner in the 100m Hurdles (16.4), Neha Garg in the 300m Hurdles (53.8), Clara Reinartz in the 400m (1:03.3), Sarah Keiser in the 3200m (13:06), Kylie Chase in the Pole Vault (6’ 0”), Emmy Wood in the Long Jump (15’ 6.5”), McCabe Galloway in the Triple Jump (32’ 8”), the 4x400 Relay team of Kate Cavenaugh, Kristen Orr, Diana Neben, and Clara Reinartz (4:32.7), and the 4x800 Relay team of Ashley Bohle, Kylie Chase, Sarah Martin, and Sarah Keiser (11:16).  Freshman Bohle was particularly impressive as she ran 11 seconds better than her previous best with a 2:39 carry.

The Furies Boys track team’ s streak of 6 consecutive PACIS championships came to a halt as Wesleyan had by far their best outing of the year and came away with a 82-68 point victory, (GDS was third with 28 points).  The Furies PACIS titles all came in the field events as Senior Nick Sink led the way with wins in the Shot Put (42’6.5”) and the Discus (118’6”).  Senior captain David Bohle provided the most excitement by leaping a  three foot personal best 40’ 5” in winning the Triple Jump on his last jump in the competition!  Junior Ross Pollock handled the wind conditions better than anyone else and secured his first PACIS title in the Pole Vault with a PR tying leap of 12’ 6”.

Both track teams travel to Cary Academy this coming Friday/Saturday for the NCISAA State Track & Field Championships beginning at 3:30pm Friday and 10:00am Saturday.

Fury Tracksters Compete Well at East Forsyth on Saturday (4/24)

The Fury track team was small in numbers on Saturday but they came up large in performances at the Eagle Track Classic.  Leading the way were State Meet qualifying performances from Sarah Keiser and Jamaal London.  Keiser had been so close in her previous two outings in the 3200m, including a 13:16 last week at the City/County meet, that she was anxious to get into a race that would push her under the necessary qualifying time of 13:10.  She accomplished that in a BIG way, crossing the finish line in 12:56.97 and scoring the team’s highest place in the meet on the girls’ side with her fifth place finish.  London, who upped his PR in the Long Jump by 5” with an 18’ 8.5” leap, placed fifth in the competition and is now qualified for the NCISAA State Meet along with teammate John Hewell (18’ 7.25”).
The Furies had two bronze medalists amongst the 20 teams represented in the meet, as Brett Harris tossed the Shot 38’ 9.75” and Peter Bambalis scaled 5’ 6” in the High Jump.  Peter also negotiated 12’ 6” in the Pole Vault to finish one place behind David Bohle (12’ 6”/6th) and one place ahead of Ross Pollock (12’ 0”/8th).  The other scoring member of the Fury boys’ contingent was Kwame Seymour who threw the Discus 116’ 4” for a fourth place finish.  Turning in his best performance of the year by a couple of seconds was Zach Weinman in the 800m with a 2:21.48 clocking.
Elena Schreiner ran two quality races in the 100m Hurdles where she placed 6th in a tough field with her best time of the day being 17.22.  Neha Garg also had a very good day as she was close to her best marks in three events – 300m Hurdles (55.24), Shot Put (24’6”), and Discus (66’ 9”).  Emmy Wood had her best mark of the season in the Long Jump (14’ 6”), and placed 6th in the High Jump, matching her PR of 4’ 8”.  Watch out for Wood and Diana Neben in the long jump when they iron out their approach runs to hit the take-off board – they both jumped well today but gave away several inches by jumping from behind the board!
The Furies’ next meet will be a stern test at Cary Academy this coming Friday. This is the track where the NCISAA State Meet will be held on May 14-15, 2010.

Furies Track & Field (4/20)

Yesterday was a great day on the track for the Furies thinclads as they won the meet handily and produced seven state qualifiers in the process.  Leading the way and demonstrating the team’s diverse abilities was a trio of team captains in David Bohle, Taylor Boone, and Emmy Wood.  David ran the first open 400m race of his career in 54.8 and barely got nipped at the line for the win.  Taylor finished his 3200m run with a “blazing” 71 second final lap to set a PR of 10:46.1 and lower his previous best this season by 26 seconds!  Emmy is starting to show the form that placed her in the 2009 State Meet Long Jump with her best outing of the season of 14’ 5.5”.  Our 800m runners took advantage of a great field and comfortable conditions to set personal records and get qualified for states.  Clara Reinartz shaved 2.5 seconds from her previous best with a 2:35.8 clocking followed closely by Kate Cavenaugh who crossed the line in 2:37.2.  Taylor Blaylock got a PR and a state qualifying time with his 2:09.0 which hit the standard exactly!  Hunter Sturkie ran 2:09.2 to miss the standard by .2 which is what Kate did this past weekend.  Hunter is sure to get it in his next outing.  Richard Stockton lowered his PR in the 800m with a 2:05.0.  Winston Reece was our other addition to the State Meet with a clocking of 18.6 for the 110m Hurdles.

There were ten other PR’s accomplished in the competition on a cool/wet afternoon and it appears we’re making the right kind of progress at this time of the year.  A skeleton crew of tracksters will compete this Saturday at the Eagle Track Classic at East Forsyth High School, and the younger members of our team will compete in the second edition of our middle school series next Monday at home.

City/County Track and Field Meet (4/15-16)

For those of you who attended the City/County Track & Field Meet this past Thursday/Friday, you saw the Furies stand up very well to the local public schools and produced some excellent performances.  For the record, we had 11 individuals score in the meet this year compared to 5 last year, and we scored 41 points in the meet compared to last year’s 23.  Complete results can be found at ncpreptrack.com.

We had a gaggle of fine performances on the girl’s team lead by junior Kate Cavenaugh who got the Furies off to a great start on Thursday by running a few seconds faster than her personal best, a 2:39 opening leg of the 4x800 Relay.  Kate returned on Friday with a whopping 17 second PB of 5:50.59 to place 6th in the 1600m, and qualify for the State Meet!  She followed that up with a 2:38.50 in the 800m that just missed placing, and missed qualifying for States by .36 seconds.  Clara Reinartz also circled the track in fine fashion as her 2:37 anchor-leg in the 4x800 Relay capped off a time that was 42 seconds faster than our relay had run this season!  Ashley Bohle (2:53) and Sarah Keiser (2:51) filled out that relay.  Clara had PB marks established on both days in the 400m as her qualifying time of 1:03.81 run on Thursday was bested on Friday in the finals as she ran 1:02.68 for a 4th place finish.  McCabe Galloway was our highest placing female in the meet as her 33’ 1.5” effort in the Triple Jump earned her a bronze medal.  Sara Argenta posted her best time of the season in the 300m Hurdles of 56.56 to place 8th.  Other PB’S were achieved by Lyndci Hutchens in the throws (23’ 4.5” SP, 43’ 7” Discus), and Sarah Keiser in the 3200m ( 13:16.26).

Richard Stockton lead the boy’s team with a spirited 2:07 leg in the 4x800, sped to a 2:05.19 PB in the 800m on Friday to finish 6th, and anchored our 4x400 to their best time of the year.  David Bohle lead that team off with a 54.8 which is not too shabby for a pole vaulter!  Speaking of the vaulters, ours scored three places and had an excellent evening, (Peter Bambalis -3rd @ 12’ 6” – season’s best, Ross Pollock –5th @ 12’ 6” – PB, David Bohle -8th @ 11’ 6”).  Discus throwers Kwame Seymour (5th @ 113’ 6”), and Brett Harris (7th @ 110’ 5” PB), did an admirable job along with Winston Reece who ran the fastest race of his life in the 110m Hurdles (19.24) to place 8th and qualify for the State Meet.  Zach Weinman had a great meet also as he stepped in for a band-trip absentee to anchor the 4x800 Relay with a 2:20.5 carry, which is a three second seasonal best for Zach.  He returned on Friday to run a 5:34.48 for the 1600m which is a 17 second improvement on his PB.

On Saturday, senior Hannah Algood competed in the Villain Relays at Bishop McGuinness and earned two 3rd place finishes in the High Jump (4’ 8”), and Long Jump (13’ 10.5”).  Both marks qualify Hannah for the State Meet.

The Fury Track and Field teams flexed their muscles in their first home contest of the season with convincing wins over visiting Wesleyan Christian Academy, High Point Christian Academy, and Salem Academy.  The Forsyth girls scored 125.5 points to outdistance HPC (61.5), WES (43) and SAL (41) by a comfortable margin.  Double winners in individual events for the Furies included Kate Cavenaugh in the 800m (2:46.9) and 1600m (6:19), Elena Schreiner in the 100 Hurdles (16.2 – Personal Best) and 300m Hurdles (56.2), and McCabe Galloway in the Long Jump (13’ 7.5”) and Triple Jump (31’ 2”).  Kate was also on two winning relay teams along with Kylie Chase, Ashley Bohle, and Sarah Martin in the 4x800 and Chrissy Reinemund, Diana Neben, and Clara Reinartz in the 4x400.  The Furies swept the relays with wins in the 4x100 (Emmy Wood, Sydney Shaw, Madison Brown, and Diana Neben), and the 4x200 (Emmy Wood, Diana Neben, Madison Brown, and Chrissy Reinemund).  Other winners for the girls include Clara Reinartz in the 400m (1:06.7), and Sarah Keiser in the 3200m (13:18.7).
