Southlake Christian Over Furies Volleyball in Quarterfinal (10/28)

The Fury varsity volleyball team headed to Cary Academy to take on Southlake Christian in the NCISAA State Quarterfinal match-up last Friday. It was definitely one for the books, as it was the ultimate last match for the team’s 2011 season. FCDS lost three games to two, but the team played with heart and great physical ability. The girls put forth a great effort all season, and it was one that won’t be forgotten. Thank you to everyone who has supported us this season. Go Furies!

Furies Volleyball Over Covenant Day in NCISAA Tournament (10/25)

There is only one word to describe the Furies' performance tonight - perfection! The #10 seeded FCDS varsity volleyball team traveled to Charlotte to face the #7 seed, Covenant Day, in the first round of the NCISAA state tournament. FCDS had incredible defense and, with aggressive serves, the CD Lions had no opportunity to come back. The team's killer offense gave the Furies the advantage while their iron-clad blocking was unstoppable. Forsyth swept the Lions in three games (26-24, 25-12, 25-19). The Furies now move on to the quarterfinals and will face Southlake Christian this Friday at Cary Academy.

Furies Volleyball Takes Providence (10/20)

It was an awesome Senior Night for FCDS varsity volleyball, as the team recognized its six senior players: Morgan Barnhardt, Kaitlyn Hadfield, Sydney Hanes, Lauren Lockwood, Katie Ralston, and Jenny Temas.  These players have been key to the team's success this season and will be missed dearly next year.

After suffering a loss on Monday, the Furies came out with an attitude to win and win they did versus Providence Day School.  FCDS won the match in three games (26-24, 25-23, 25-14) because of strong serving and defense.  A powerful offense, led by setter Barnhardt, allowed the front row to shut PDS down.  Hanes and Temas led the Furies with six and five kills, respectively while Ralston and Lockwood stepped up in the front row to get major blocks for FCDS.  Good defensive moves were brought on by Madison Scronce in the back court, while Anna French did a great job blocking at the net.  The Furies plan to keep this momentum going and into the state playoffs next week.

Calvary Over Furies Volleyball (10/17)

In a highly anticipated varsity volleyball match between FCDS and Calvary Baptist Day School, the Furies sought to win their final conference match. Unfortunately, it was not the Furies' night. FCDS took the first game by using aggressive serving and a stellar offense, but CBDS maintained their backrow attacks and the Furies made too many errors in the next three sets. In the end, CBDS won the match in four sets,25-20 (FCDS),8-25 (CBDS),18-25 (CBDS),26-28 (CBDS).

This Thursday the Furies will celebrate Senior Night, as they take on Providence Day in their final home match. Come out and support our amazing senior class at 4:45 p.m.

Furies Volleyball Over H-P Christian (10/13)

The air was filled with intensity at the varsity volleyball match between Forsyth Country Day and High Point Christian Thursday. An epic battle was played out between the two teams. After losing to the Cougars a few weeks ago, the Furies were pumped to get a win against them on their home court. FCDS played strong and, serving aggressively throughout the match, the Furies were able to pull off a major four-set win. The girls won the first two sets, as well as the fourth, during which they battled back from a nine point deficit at 2-11. All out defense and smart plays allowed the Furies to play "their game" and FCDS' mental focus allowed the team to pull together when things got tough. Overall, it was an awesome night and the Furies remain undefeated on their home court. The team is excitedly looking forward to their next and final conference match on Monday, October 17 against Calvary Baptist. Go Furies!

Furies Volleyball Over GDS (10/6)

The Fury varsity volleyball team made it a 2-0 record for the week, after traveling to GDS to take on the Bengals. FCDS had great energy coming into the game and the girls maintained their focus throughout the match. The players consistently picked up balls off of the blockers hands and also served well. The match was a wonderful opportunity to get all of the players in for some playing time and the entire team adjusted well and everyone played awesome! The Furies swept the Bengals in three sets winning by scores of 25-7, 25-7, and 25-14. FCDS is anticipating their next match on Thursday, October 13, against High Point Christian.

Furies Volleyball Takes Wesleyan (10/4)

It was another great night for the Fury varsity volleyball team as they traveled to Wesleyan Christian Academy for a highly anticipated PACIS match. The Furies came ready to play and kept their strength throughout the match. All of tonight's players were stand-outs, as the Furies served aggresively and played amazing defense. The offense was dominant, hitting ball after ball that WCA could not get up. FCDS stayed focus, played with heart, and won the match (25-20, 25-17, 25-16). The Furies travel to Greensboro Day on Thursday and are excited for their next match. Go Furies!!

Calvary Over Furies Volleyball (9/30)

The Fury varsity volleyball team took on the Cougars of Calvary Baptist Day School on Friday night. The first game of the match was a great one for the Furies. Awesome serve receive passes and great connections in the offense gave the team a 25-23 win. Unfortunately, the rest of the match would not go in the Furies' favor. Too many missed serves made it tough for the Furies to win the next three sets, as their momentum continued to decline. CBDS won the last three sets (27-25, 25-21, 25-17) to take the match. The Furies are looking forward to a weekend of rest to prepare for their matches next week against Wesleyan and Greensboro Day.

H-P Christian Over Furies Volleyball (9/26)

Last night, the Fury varsity volleyball team traveled to High Point Christian for a mid-season conference match on Monday night. Unfortunately, it was not the Furies' night, as the team was down three players and had to adjust to new positions in some cases. HPC played great defense and the Furies made too many mistakes to catch up in the first two games. The third game was the closest one, as FCD fought back and played much more aggressively, but HPC was fired up and took the final set to clinch the match. The Furies look forward to their next match on Friday at Calvary Baptist at 6:00pm.

Furies Volleyball Takes Cougars (9/23)

The Fury varsity volleyball team dominated against the Greensboro Day Cougars on Friday night, in front of front of their biggest crowd of the season, in the Childress Activities Center! In the first set, FCDS got off to a hot start, with aggresive serving from Katie Ralston that put the Furies up 13-2. FCDS kept the lead and won the first set 25-5. GDS fought with FCDS at the start of the second match but the Furies maintained their focus and, with great defense, they took the second set 25-12. The third set proved to be another strong one for FCDS, as the team stayed on top of their game with big blocks and killer swings at the net. FCDS took the third set 25-8 to sweep the match. It was another strong match for the Furies and the team is looking forward to their next matches in the Serve for the Cure tournament at Charlotte Latin. 25-5 (FCDS) 25-12 (FCDS) 25-8 (FCDS)

Furies Volleyball Takes Cary Academy (9/20)

The Fury varsity volleyball team took on the Cary Academy Chargers tonight in an epic battle in the Childress Activities Center. In the first set, FCDS jumped out to a 12-1 lead, after a serving run from setter Morgan Barnhardt. The Chargers got back in the game after a few errors by the Furies but FCDS pulled out the win (25-20). The next set was not the best one for the Furies. Too many missed serves and loss of focus gave CA the lead and FCDS lost the second set 25-15. After the disappointing loss in the second set, the Furies allowed CA to take control of the third set. With CA leading 20-18, the Furies began to fight back. They stepped up their game by bringing big blocks to the net and playing stellar defense! FCDS ended up victorious in the third set 26-24. Like the first set, the Furies started the fourth set off strongly, but CA did not want to go back home yet and they fought back and took advantage of a weakened Fury serve receive, to win 25-21. Two hours after the match began, the Furies were beginning the fifth and final set. Smart plays and aggresive serves allowed FCDS to take the early lead. Points rallied back and forth between the two teams but, in the end, the Furies came out victorious, winning 15-13 in an amazing match. It was an awesome win for the Furies who are anxious to play again and will meet Greensboro Day on Homecoming Friday at 5:30 p.m.

Furies Volleyball Over Wesleyan (9/16)

After a great win on Tuesday, the Fury varsity volleyball team was pumped to play PACIS rival Wesleyan Friday night! FCDS brought a crowd of fans and brought their “A-Game” to the match! FCDS started the things with a solid offensive effort, led by setter Morgan Barnhardt, who would go on to record 29 assists for the evening. Wesleyan fought back to the tie the score but FCDS pulled out a close win with a final score of 25-23. The second set started off slowly for FCDS and before they knew it, they were trailing 19-13. After a few awesome plays and some amazing defense from Madison Scronce, the Furies closed the gap. After fighting back to tie the set at 20-20, Lauren Lockwood, Katie Ralston, and Anna French aided the Furies fight for a win. With stellar serves, FCDS pulled off the victory 29-27! FCDS stayed hot in the third set, starting off with a quick lead and maintaining it. Because of the great teamwork and an end-it-now mentality, the Furies won the third and final set 25-13. Outside hitters Jenny Temas and Sydney Hanes were on fire throughout the set, recording nine and 12 kills respectively. It was a great home-opener for the 2011 season! The Furies look forward to their next match which will be played on Tuesday versus Cary Academy.

Furies Volleyball Takes Salem Baptist (9/13)

The varsity volleyball team headed to the downtown WS area to take on Salem Baptist. FCDS started the first game off with a bang! Solid, consistent serving by Morgan Barnhardt and Katie Ralston gave FCDS the upper-hand, helping lead to a 25-13 win. In the second match, the Furies had to put forth a little more effort to keep the ball, but after the first few points got away from the Furies, strong serving and excellent passes from Madison Scronce, Lauren Lockwood, and Abby Williams allowed the Furies to take the lead a keep it to win 25-18. The third and final game of the match was a great one. Jenny Temas had an awesome run, jump-serving 12 balls in a row. Along with great offenses run by Barnhardt and Arina Cotuna, Kaitlyn Hadfield, Syndey Hanes, and Hannah Jung were able to get good swings on the ball and get the Furies points. FCDS took the third game 25-11. Working together proved to be beneficial for the Furies, as they played strong and kept up their intensity throughout the match. The Furies look forward to hosting their next match against Wesleyan this Friday at 6:30.

Charlotte Latin Takes Furies Volleyball (9/8)

The Fury varsity volleyball team traveled to Charlotte Latin for a highly anticipated match on Thursday afternoon. The Furies began the first game playing aggressively and passing serve receive balls well.  After a few broken plays, the Hawks took the lead in that game and kept it, winning 25-18. FCDS had a slow start in the second game and quickly fell behind Latin. After too many missed serves in the second game, the Furies couldn't gain momentum back and lost that contest by a score of 25-16. As in the first game, the Furies began the third game in strong fashion. Points bounced back and forth between the two teams because of great offensive plays and strong defensive moves. Although the Furies picked up their game, the Hawks took off and ended the game and the match with their 25-17 victory. Although the scores didn't necessarily reflect it, the Furies played very well.  They played out tough rallies and fought hard throughout the action.  The Furies are anxious for their next match, which is scheduled for next Tuesday, September 13, at Salem Baptist.

Furies Volleyball Takes St. Mary's (8/30)

The Fury varsity volleyball team made the long haul to Raleigh where they took on the Saint Mary's Saints. FCDS started off strong with a great offense and strong serve receive passing. Although the Saints rallied back to keep the set close, the Furies won the first set 25-20 by keeping their composure and maintaining their consistently strong play. In the second set, the Saints took advantage of the Furies weakened serve receive passing and took an early lead which made it difficult for the Furies to catch up. The Saints took the second set 25-18. Ready to turn the match around, the Furies started the third set with a 10 point service run from Morgan Barnhardt. FCDS upped their game by moving their feet on defense, blocking the ball, and being aggressive on every play. After additional long service runs by Jenny Temas and Sydney Hanes, the Furies were well ahead and won the third set 25-8. Finally, the Furies showed off their talent by serving strong and hitting the ball hard. The Furies and the Saints both put up a fight, but in the end FCDS won the game 25-17 bringing home the win.

Furies Volleyball at Asheboro Tournament (8/27)

To kick off the first weekend of the school year, the Fury varsity volleyball went to Asheboro for their 3rd annual Asheboro-YMCA Tournament. The Asheboro tournament is a fun one to participate in, and with many mini-matches, it was a great time for FCDS to get in a lot of reps and play teams that they don't see in the regular season. In pool play, the Furies went up against Grimsley, Glenn, Calvary, Asheboro, and East Randolph.  The Furies finished third in pool play with a 6-4 set record and then went into the final round to determine their standings against North Davidson. In that match, the Furies had solid serve receive and defensive passes, as well as a killer offense. FCD took the first set 25-18 and the second set 25-11, which gave them a fifth place finish for the tournament. It was a great day for the Furies and they're anxiously awaiting their next match against St. Mary's on Wednesday. 

Knights Over Furies Volleyball (8/23)

The Fury varsity volleyball team had an epic battle with the Charlotte Christian Knights on Tuesday night. FCDS started the match off with a bang! In the first set, awesome defense and smart plays got the Furies the lead and the team took that lead and ran with it, ending the first set with a 25- 21 win. The Knights fought back in the second set, taking advantage of the FCDS serve receive. Although the Furies were behind, they fought hard but unfortunately. it was too late and the Furies lost 25-17. In the third set FCDS seemed to pick up their motivation, as they served tough and ran a deceptive offense. Points went back and forth between the two teams but the Furies pulled ahead and won the third set 27-25. Struggling to keep the lead in the fourth set, the team was overcome by the Knights' aggressive defense. Charlotte Christian came from behind and beat FCDS 26-24. That game set up a deciding fifth match. The Furies were determined to win the match, but after a few early errors, the Knights gained steam. CCS took the early lead, making it difficult for the Furies to catch up. In the end, Charlotte Christian won the fifth set 15-10, and as a result clinched the match. The Furies played with a lot of heart and determination in a gut-wrenching match. They’re already looking forward to the Asheboro Tournament they will participate in this Saturday. Go Furies!

Furies Volleyball Kicks Off Season (8/20)

The Fury varsity volleyball team started the season with a bang this weekend, at their own annual End of Summer Slam tournament. The Furies played smart and strong throughout the day. The team first played Carlisle and won in two games thanks to aggressive serving and a strong offense. Charlotte Christian was the next opponent for FCDS and that match proved to be one of the best in recent history for FCDS. The Knights took the first set but the Furies fought back and won the second, leading the teams to a final third set. After getting down early, the FCDS defense took charge and brought the Furies the win. The next matchup for FCDS was against Parkland H.S. and the girls kept the their level of play high and earned another win in the pool play round. The Furies finished first in their pool and headed to the semi-finals against Charlotte Country Day School. CCDS took the first set of the game by taking advantage of a few Fury errors. FCDS fought back in the second set, determined to display their passion for the game. After trailing in the beginning of the match, the Furies evened the score at 20-20. Points went back and forth between the two teams but, in the end, CCDS came our victorious by a final score of 27-25. Although FCDS lost a heart-wrenching match, it was an awesome day for the Furies to kick off their season!
